NexDock Touch Laptop Shell Features a Touchscreen Display, an Optional Magnetic Mount for Your Phone

NexDock is a Motorola Lapdock alternative launched in 2016 with a 14.1″ non-touch display, a built-in battery, and a Bluetooth keyboard. It was followed by NexDock 2 last year with a Full HD display and a USB-C port.

The company has now announced they had started manufacturing NexDock Touch based on NexDock 2 but adding a touchscreen display and some other features, and the company has also developed a magnetic mount – compatible with all NexDock models – to conveniently attach your phone to the side of the display.

It not only works with your phone, but also as a primary display for SBCs such as Raspberry Pi, or a secondary display for your laptop, computer or tablet. In the case of Raspberry Pi 4, you can connect a USB-C cable and an HDMI cable between the board and NexDock 2/Touch for power and display. The following line needs to be added to /boot/config.txt:

Compared to NexDock 2, the new laptop shell also features narrower bezels, a larger 60Wh battery (instead of 51Wh), improved speakers, and a bigger and improved touchpad.

NexDock Touch can still be pre-ordered for only $249!

The company is taking pre-orders now an early bird price of $249 plus shipping and asks $100 as a down payment. The shipping of pre-orders is scheduled by the end of August, and Nexdock Touch retail price is expected to be $319. The magnetic mount should become available in the next few weeks.

  1. If i look on Amazon a Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6 inches Full HD IPS Display, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Vega 3 Graphics, 4GB DDR4, 128GB SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 in S Mode, A515-43-R19L,Silver cost $350 without p&p.

Not a total like for like comparison, but does make nexdock look expensive i suggest.

    1. I always wondered, why wouldn’t any notebook manufacturer make an inbuilt USB-C hub, while suspending PC itself? Or at least HDMI-in port?

    2. Same story as usual. I totally agree with you, this kind of gadgets are deprecated in the world lead by logic, but unfortunatelly there is not enough logic in it so these things are indeed released. But it applies the same for the people who buy 800e phones, 1000e computers or anything that does not meet just the requirements and the purpose for what they want the thing for. Buying things because “it is from a specific brand I like” or “it is the fastest even I don’t needed it” should mean nothing. Sure, it’s your money, and you spend it in whatever you want, of course, I’m not arguing with that, what I say is if you want to spend the money for something overpriced just say openly “I’ve wasted my money but I don’t care” 🙂
