Linux 5.13 Release – Notable changes, Arm, MIPS and RISC-V architectures

Linus Torvalds has just announced the release of Linux 5.13: So we had quite the calm week since rc7, and I see no reason to delay 5.13. The shortlog for the week is tiny, with just 88 non-merge commits (and a few of those are just reverts). It’s a fairly random mix of fixes, and being so small I’d just suggest people scan the appended shortlog for what happened. Of course, if the last week was small and calm, 5.13 overall is actually fairly large. In fact, it’s one of the bigger 5.x releases, with over 16k commits (over 17k if you count merges), from over 2k developers. But it’s a “big all over” kind of thing, not something particular that stands out as particularly unusual. Some of the extra size might just be because 5.12 had that extra rc week. MINIX NEO J50C-4 Max mini PC international giveaway

Right before Christmas, I posted a review of MINIX NEO J50C-4 Max mini PC powered by an Intel Pentium J5005 Gemini Lake processor coupled with 8GB RAM and a 240GB SSD. It’s basically the same as the previously reviewed MINIX NEO J50C-4 except for the extra memory and faster & higher capacity SSD storage. MINIX asked me if I could do a giveaway of three units on CNX Software after the review, and I thought it would be a good idea so here we are. MINIX NEO J50C-4 Max mini PC review with 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD

Back in 2018 MINIX Introduced NEO J50C-4 Windows 10 Pro mini PC based on Intel Pentium J5005 Gemini Lake processor and fitted with 4GB RAM and 32GB eMMC flash. It never got released in this configuration, as due to Gemini Lake processors shortage the company relaunched it with a 64GB eMMC flash in 2019. Since then, the company launched the NEO J50C-4 Plus with a 240GB SSD and 4GB RAM, which I did not review. But now the Hong Kong company has introduced a new model with NEO J50C-4 Max equipped with 8GB RAM and 240GB SSD. I’m now using MINIX NEO P2 GaN USB-C charger for all review using USB powered devices. CNX Software’s “Giveaway week 2020” took place last week with 7 different prizes including three MINIX accessories (USB-C hubs and USD PD charger), M5Stack Atom Echo ESP32 based programmable speaker, Miniware DT71 smart tweezers, and two SBC’s namely RockPi 4C and Ryzen Embedded based DFI GHF51. MINIX NEO P2 is a 100W Turbo 4-Port GaN Charger with two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports with support for USB PD 3.0, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Giveaway Week – MINIX NEO Storage Plus USB-C Hub with 480GB SSD

There have been “giveaway weeks” every year since 2014 on CNX Software where I send some of the samples I reviewed in the last year to seven lucky readers. With COVID-19 this year, I thought it might not happen, but it looks like shipping is working normally except for a $1.4 surcharge, so Giveaway Week 2020 will still take although I’ve tweaked the rules a bit. I’m using “Small Packet” to ship parcels at an affordable price, and if the option is not available, shipping may end up being two to four times more expensive. I’ve (naively?) assumed the Thai post office website is up-to-date, and checked “Small Packet” shipping was indeed available for the USA, France, Japan, and Australia. But out of caution, I’ll ask people to write the country where I’m supposed to ship the parcel. This will allow me to check shipping options before contacting the winners. […]
