DFI GHF51 AMD Ryzen Embedded SBC Review – Part 1: Unboxing and Assembly

AMD Ryzen Raspberry Pi SBC Heatsink

Earlier this year, Taiwan based DFI launched GHF51 Ryzen Embedded R1000 SBC offering some similarities with Raspberry Pi 4 SBC, including a business card form factor, two Micro HDMI ports, and Gigabit Ethernet. But the comparison stopped there, as DFI GHF51 board will vastly outperform the Raspberry Pi 4 boards both in terms of CPU and graphics performance due to AMD Ryzen processor, and DFI embedded board does not target hobbyists nor students, but instead business and industrial customers. The company recently contacted CNX Software, and send GHF51 board with all accessories for review. I was pretty excited since it’s the first AMD Ryzen Embedded SBC that I’ll review, so it should be particularly interesting.  I’ve just received the sample and will do a two-part review starting with unboxing and kit assembly, before publishing the second part of the review reporting on my experience with Windows 10 and/or Ubuntu 20.04. AMD Ryzen Embedded V1605B/V1807B SBC Offers Four GbE Interfaces, Four Video Outputs

Axiomtek CAPA13R

We’ve written about several AMD Ryzen Embedded V1000 SBCs and many of them fully leverage the processor multimedia capabilities with support for four 4K displays, but  Axiomtek CAPA13R 3.5″ Embedded SBC adds an extra twist by also offering four Gigabit Ethernet ports. The board is equipped with either Ryzen Embedded V1807B or V1605B, up to 16GB RAM, and offers two M.2 sockets for storage and connectivity. Four independent display support is achieved through a mix of three types of video output including two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, and one LVDS connector. Axiomtek CAPA13R V1605B/V1807B SBC specifications: SoC – AMD Ryzen Embedded V1807B ( 35-54W) or V1605B (12-25W) quad-core processor with Radeon Vega 8 graphics System Memory – 1 x 260-pin SO-DIMM socket for up to 16GB DDR4-2400 (V1605B), 16GB DDR4-3200 (V1807) Storage – SATA 3.0 port (6Gbps),  support for M.2 SATA/NVMe SSD in 22x42mm or 30x42mm form factor (Key B […]

BeagleBone Green Gateway SBC with Ethernet, WiFi, and Bluetooth Launched for $60

Buy BeagleBone Green Gateway

BeagleBone Green Gateway SBC was first unveiled last July as an update to BeagleBone Green Wireless board with Ethernet, and Octavo Systems OSD3358 SiP along with some smaller changes like support for 12V power supply and I2C RTC + battery. The board did however lose two USB 2.0 ports to make space for the Ethernet connector. The board was not quite available at the time, but the good news is that you can now buy BeagleBone Green Gateway for $59.99 on Seeed Studio. Specifications have remained the same as the ones provided for the initial announcement:  SiP – Octavo Systems OSD3358 with Texas Instruments AM3358 Arm Cortex-A8 processor @ 1.0 GHz, 2×32-bit 200-MHz programmable real-time units (PRUs), 3D graphics accelerator, 512MB DDR3 SDRAM, 4KB EEPROM, and integrated power management Storage – 4GB 8-bit eMMC on-board flash storage (Kington) + microSD socket Connectivity 10/100Mbps Ethernet (RJ45) WiFi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz + […]

DEVICE.FARM Generates Raspbian/Armbian Docker Images for about 100 Arm Linux SBCs

Last year, I reviewed BalenaOS and BalenaCloud on Raspberry Pi CM3L based BalenaFin hardware. The solution generates OS images with docker support in order to easily manage and update a fleet of devices remotely over a web interface or client program. Balena.io supports over 60 boards either officially, or thanks to the work of the community, but Pavel Burgr is developing an alternative with DEVICE.FARM supporting close to 100 Arm SBC’s including Raspberry Pi boards, and most Armbian supported Arm SBC’s. DEVICE.FARM is still beta, but the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) version of the website provides: Customized images for supported boards (currently 94 boards) Preinstalled docker Secure remote access to the device’s docker end-point Secure remote access to the device’s services exposed by containers This is functional, but bugs are likely, and documentation still needs to be finalized. I don’t have a board with me, but I tried to generate […]

WiFi 6 Embedded SBC Features Qualcomm IPQ6018 Processor, Gigabit & 2.5Gbps Ethernet Ports

Qualcomm IPQ6018 Networking SBC

Last year, we covered Dakota DR40x9 Wave-2 AC router board powered by Qualcomm IPQ4019 or IPQ4029 quad-core Cortex-A7 WiSoC, but there’s now a new Qualcomm based embedded SBC supporting WiFi 6. DR6018 (aka AP.CP01 or just CP01) is powered by Qualcomm IPQ6018 quad-core Cortex-A53 WiSoC with 802.11ax WiFi 6, six Ethernet ports including five Gigabit Ethernet, and one 2.5 GbE port, as well an M.2 expansion socket. YARC Case Can House a Raspberry Pi Board with one HAT Expansion Board and Up to 3 Hard Drives (Crowdfunding)

YARC Raspberry Pi Case HAT HDD

There are plenty of enclosures for Raspberry Pi board and other compact x86 or Arm Linux SBCs, but many projects require expansion boards and it’s not always possible to use an off-the-shelf case. That’s with that in mind that Stefano Zorzi and other enthusiasts have created YARC (Yes, Another Raspberry Case), a hexagonal case that supports the most popular single board computers, even when an add-on board – such as a Raspberry Pi HAT – is attached to the board. There’s enough space for up to three 2.5″ hard drives. Those are the boards officially supported (tested?) with the case: Raspberry Pi B +, 2B, 3B, 3B +, 4B, A +, 3A + Hardkernel ODROID C1, C2 AAEON Up Board Asus Tinker board and Tinker board S Radxa Rock Pi 4 Orange Pi PC, Pi PC2, Pi PC Plus Basically any board with compatible mounting holes can be installed in […]
