LoRa Edge

Semtech, a leader in LoRa and RF technology, is continuing its support for the LoRa ecosystem with the launch of a new portfolio of solutions called LoRa Edge to simplify and accelerate IoT applications for the Edge. LoRa Edge is a new highly versatile and low power software-defined LoRa-based platform that will enable a wide portfolio of applications for indoor and outdoor asset management, targeting industrial, building, home, agriculture, transportation, and logistics markets. The LoRa Edge platform is launching with a geolocation solution targeted to IoT applications for asset management. It features an ultra-low power LoRa transceiver, GNSS sniffing capabilities, Wi-Fi scanning technologies all in one single package called Semtech LR1110. “Semtech continually delivers Internet of Things (IoT) solutions that simplify and accelerate the development of LPWAN applications,” said Pedro Pachuca, Director of IoT Wireless in Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group. “LoRa Edge and LoRa Cloud geolocation services enable customers […]

Semtech LoRa Asset Tracking Reference Kit Includes one LoRaWAN Gateway, Six Waterproof GPS Trackers

LoRa Asset Tracking Reference Kit Gateway

The Things Conference is taking place now until January 31, so we should expect a few LoRaWAN announcements, and yesterday we covered Semtech LLCC68 LoRa transceiver for smart home applications, but the company also introduced a LoRa asset tracking reference kit to ease the deployment and evaluation of LoRa based tracking solutions. The kit is comprised of one LoRaWAN gateway, and six waterproof trackers with GPS and LoRa connectivity which everything supposed to work out of the box. The gateway, as shown above, comes with LoRa, cellular and GPS antennas, as well as a PoE power supply. It ships with a pre-configured SIM card to connect to the cloud platform over 3G/4G. Six industrial LoRaWAN-based GPS trackers are also included with the kit. Each comes with a battery but the trackers need to be activated by the user. Interestingly they are not using a button to turn on and off […]

Semtech launches LLCC68 LoRa Transceiver for Smart Home Applications

Semtech, a leader in LoRa and RF technology, is continuing its support for the LoRa ecosystem with the launch of a LoRa Smart Home transceiver called the LLCC68. The device is designed for deploying existing and new LPWAN technologies for smart homes, community, and consumer applications. The LoRa Smart Home (LLCC68) is like every other sub-GHz LoRa RF transceiver but mostly targeted to indoor and medium outdoor applications. The device is hardware compatible with the SX126x series like the: SX1261, SX1262, and SX1268. The LLCC68 transceiver is optimized for battery-powered applications with multi-year life expectancy. It consumes as little as 600nA of sleep current, 4.6 mA of active receive current and can transmit at +22 dBm thanks to highly efficient integrated power amplifiers. According to SemTech, The new LoRa® Smart Home device offers a unique opportunity to accelerate the consumer adoption of smart home connected solutions. As an end-to-end solution, […]

Semtech SX1302 LoRa Transceiver to Deliver Cheaper, More Efficient Gateways

SX1302 Raspberry Pi Gateway

After our interview with Rak Wireless CEO, we received a comment inquiring about the availability of SX1302 gateways. Semtech so far had two LoRa transceivers for gateways namely SX1301 and SX1308, but I had never heard about a third one. Semtech SX1302 is brand new, the latest generation of baseband LoRa chip for gateways that is said to reduce current consumption in order to simplify the thermal design of gateways, as well as the BoM (bill of materials) costs), while being capable of handling a higher amount of traffic. Semtech SX1302 LoRa Transceiver Key features: Up to -141 dBm sensitivity with SX1250 Tx/Rx front-end 125 kHz LoRa reception with: 8 x 8 channels LoRa packet detectors 8 x SF5-SF12 LoRa demodulators 8 x SF5-SF10 LoRa demodulators 125 /250 / 500 kHz LoRa demodulator (G)FSK demodulator Direct interface to Semtech transceivers SX1255, SX1257 and SX1250 SPI host interface Single 32 MHz […]

Semtech Releases Open Source Software for LoRa Gateways & Devices

Lora Basic Station

Semtech has released open source software for LoRa-based gateways including LoRa Basic Station packet forwarder for Linux-based gateways, LoRa Basic MAC implementation of the LoRa Alliance’s LoRaWAN specification, and LoRa Basic loader bootloader capable of handling firmware updates. All three components are available for free under a revised 3-Clause BSD license. LoRa Basic Station supports LoRaWAN Classes A, B, and C, presents a unified radio abstraction layer supporting Concentrator Reference Designs v1.5 and v2, and implements various backend protocols. Apart from mbedTLS and libloragw/-v2, it does not rely on external dependencies, the code is written in C language only, and easily portable to Linux gateways and embedded systems. LoRa Basic MAC is a fork of IBM’s LMiC library, also implemented in C language,  supports multiple regions selectable at compile and/or run time, and can handle Class A, Class B, and Class C devices. Basic MAC uses LoRa Basic loader to […]
