FriendlyElec Launches Smart6818 Samsung S5P6818 CPU Module

Yesterday, we covered Core4418 low profile board based on Samsung S5P4418 quad core Cortex A9 processor, but that’s not the only product launched by FriendlyElec this week, as the company also introduced Smart6818, a Samsung S5P6818 CPU module following Smart4418 module design, and equipped with 1GB DDR3, and 8 to 32 GB eMMC flash.

  1. S5P6818 is Cortex-A53, only S5P4418 is Cortex-A9 🙂

S5P6818 fully supports ARMv8 Crypto Extensions when brought up with a 64-bit kernel in ARMv8 mode (which is the case with all latest FriendlyELEC software offerings and also mainline kernel)

    1. USB2 of course (behind an internal hub of course so even the USB2 data lines in the mPCI slot have to share bandwidth with a disk). Let’s hope it’s JMicron and not GL830 😉

        1. Well, those two Samsung/Nexell SoCs lack decent I/O bandwidth: 1 x USB2 OTG and 1 x USB2 host. Gigabit Ethernet (on an own RGMII bus) is the fastest interface on these SoCs. And given that companies design ‘industrial boards’ with a bunch of USB receptacles and even two network interfaces based on a crippled joke called Raspberry Pi (or their Compute Module) the above doesn’t look too grotty 😉
