iMars Black is an Inexpensive Bluetooth 5.0 USB Audio Transmitter & Receiver

Last year I wrote about a Bluetooth 5.0 audio amplifier board and the potential benefits of Bluetooth 5.0 for audio applications which include support for configurable periodic data broadcast which may improve power consumption, and reduction of reconnection times. It’s unclear to me whether those are clear advantages in practical terms but I’ve just noticed iMars Black, a Bluetooth 5.0 USB audio transmistter & receiver being sold on Banggood for $3.99.

Bluetooth 5.0 (D00251) transmitter and receiver specifications:

    • Range – Up to 15m (line of sight)
    • Pairing name: ZF-169
  • Audio ports – 3.5mm Tx and Rx audio jacks
  • Misc – LED: red or Tx, blue for Rx; Button to switch between Tx and Rx modes

The Bluetooth 5.0 USB audio dongle ships with two audio cables, and a user manual.

There are basically two use cases. The first pictured above is where you can convert a non-bluetooh device into one that transmit audio over Bluetooth. Connect the dongle to a USB port for power, and the audio output of your TV, home stereo system, or CD player to the Tx jack of the dongle via the provided cable.  If you’re using a PC, the audio cable is not needed, since everything happens over USB. In receiver mode we use a bluetooth-enabled phone, tablet, or computer to play audio to a “dumb” speaker connected to the Bluetooth 5.0 audio dongle.

  1. can it work with android, too? i’ve a very recent android 9 tvbox which unfortunately and unbelievably has no bt…
    thanks

    1. If you use USB only it will depend on OS support.
But if you use the audio jack as well, then it’s OS-agnostic, it only depends on USB for power.
Just to be clear this is only for Bluetooth audio. In case you wanted to connect a USB keyboard or mouse then it won’t work.
