Up2stream Mini & Pro v3 Audio Boards Add Bluetooth 5.0, USB Sound Card Mode and More

Rakoit launched Up2stream WiFi audio board in 2018, followed by Up2stream Pro board in 2019 with additional Bluetooth, Ethernet, and USB interfaces. Those boards are designed to bring network connectivity to speakers for audio streaming.

The company has now launched updates with the launch of Up2stream Mini v3 and Up2stream Pro v3 connected audio boards.

Both Up2Stream Mini v3 and Pro v3 have gotten similar updates with the ability to use the board as a micro USB sound card so you can directly plug it into a PC to make it work as a USB DAC. The boards also added SPDIF out, an ADC KEY input for external buttons, two I/O for extensions such as volume knobs. Up2stream Mini v3 now includes both WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

Shared key features and specifications of the boards are as follows:

The first version of the board was powered by a MediaTek MT7688AN MIPS processor coupled with 64MB RAM and 16MB flash, but I’m not sure that’s the case. The company does not advertise this part, as the boards are designed for people wanting to create their own DIY speakers, not necessarily wanting to mess with complex audio codec. For that reason, AFAIK, the source code won’t be released.

Changes to the mobile app – 4STREAM – for Android and iOS have been made with support for changing the device Wi-Fi SSID and Bluetooth name using the mobile app, and the company is about to release a new audio processing app/program with a 10-band EQ, input/output gain adjustment, a noise suppressor, virtual bass, stereo widener and more.

Do you need a extra amplifier board to drive the speakers? There is no mention about specifications of the speakers, so I assume bookshelf speakers or PC-speakers with a build in amplifier?
