Raspberry Pad 5 Raspberry Pi CM4 carrier board integrates 5-inch display for 3D printers

BIGTREETECH Raspberry Pad 5 is a carrier board for the Raspberry Pi CM4 module with a 5-inch 800×480 display and mainly designed as a control panel for 3D printers, but also usable for other HMI applications.

The carrier board also exposes a 40-pin GPIO header, and offers Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI video output, a MIPI CSI port for a camera monitoring the prints, a USB Type-C port, as well as three USB 2.0 ports for further peripherals expansion.

Raspberry Pad 5 specifications:

  • Compatible with Raspberry Pi CM4 and CM4 Lite modules
  • Storage – MicroSD card slot (for Raspberry Pi CM4 Lite)
  • Display – 5-inch IPS display with a 5-point capacitive touchscreen, 800×480 resolution
  • Video Output – HDMI port
  • Camera -1x MIPI CSI interface for compatible cameras from Raspberry Pi, Arducam, etc…
  • Networking – Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port, optional WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 (on RPI CM4)
  • USB – 3x USB 2.0 ports, 1x USB Type-C port with USB and CAN bus modes (selectable with switch)
  • Misc – USB/CAN bus switch, RTC + CR1220 battery holder, 3x buttons
  • Power Supply – 5V via USB Type-C port
  • Dimensions – 121 x 75.9 mm

Applications listed by the company include “Net TV”, Smart mirror, door controller, digital photo frame, wall calendar, Pad, Robot, Smart speaker, Minicomputer, and of course, as part of a 3D printer setup, for example, with the Pad 5 running Klipper and connected to the company’s BTT SKR Pico board 3D printer control board powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2040 MCU through one of the USB ports.

Raspberry Pad 5 with BTT SKR Pico 3d printer controller board

The Raspberry Pad 5 currently sells for $99 without any Raspberry Pi CM4 module, and bundles start at $165 once a Raspberry Pi CM4 Lite with 2GB RAM and WiFi is included. Other bundles mix the Pad 5 with a 3D printer control board, but somehow there’s not any all-in-one bundle with the carrier board, an RPI CM4 module, and a 3D printer control board.

  1. All these solutions and projects are BS. you get for half the price a second hand mini pc with and i5

  2. I like the screen, can be buyed separately ? i was looking for a 5″ touch. but i hate borders! this have borders of 3 different sizes……

    1. That’s odd indeed. I had not made the conversion, but 5-inch = 127 mm, so it does not look possible.
121x78mm is the “product size”. The “display area” is 108×64.8mm

      1. > The “display area” is 108×64.8mm

        …which results in a diagonal of 125.949mm or 4.96 inch 😉

      1. I think what he meant is that a display 121mm wide would be a bit too wide for a 5-inch (127mm) display.
