Banana Pi BPI-6202 industrial SBC features Allwinner A40i SoC, 24V DC input, RS485 interfaces

Banana Pi BPI-6202 “embedded single board computer” features the industrial-grade Allwinner A40i quad-core Cortex-A7 processor with industrial temperature range and long life cycle, 2GB DDR3, 8GB eMMC flash, M.2 SATA slot, and more.

That’s the second Allwinner A40i board from Banana Pi since the company launched the Banana Pi BPI-M2 Ultra SBC last year, but the new embedded SBC looks to be better suited for industrial applications with features such as dual Ethernet, an RS485 + RS232 terminal block, 24V DC input, and a -40 to +60°C operating temperature range.

The company says the BPI-6202 runs Ubuntu Mate but does not provide any download link at this time. They also seem to provide some specific software (hence the encryption chip for the software license) with a communication protocol library that supports over 300 protocols including MQTT, BACNET, OPC-UA, IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, CDT, SPABUS, MODBUS, etc… and as well PLC connection to Siemens/AB/Schneider/Mitsubishi hardware. The wiki does not make that very clear as all they really share is a Linux 5.4 BSP hosted on GitHub.

The company can also provide a complete industrial PC with the Allwinner A40i SBC housed in a metal enclosure that can also support DIN Rail mounting.

    … which according to a quick search (find bpi-cs6202 -name “*6202*”) contains zero support for their own product at this time. Seems like a stripped down and slightly updated generic Allwinner Tina Linux BSP though with an ‘updated’ u-boot-2019.07.

    So everything as usual wrt software support over in Banana land…

Well, the provided firmware/software might be the usual crap, but since the R40 is quite well supported mainline, and the peripherals seem to be pretty standard (DDR3, both PHYs, eMMC, PMIC), that should mostly work, just with the right DT. And the M.2 SATA looks neat, also nice to see that someone actually connects both MACs of the SoC (tkaiser, your favourite: no more brief bridging during bootup!) Just need to wait for the promised schematics to be released.

      Seriously: for whatever scenario this A40i board has been designed… who cares? Worst: it’s the Banana monkeys who still aren’t able to generate proper technical documentation.

      Though everyone interested in quad Cortex-A7 ‘power’ gets it here. Everybody else moved forward to RK356x.

      Most importantly: Those Banana clowns are now a ‘premium Armbian sponsor’. They pay Igor for the work you and the linux-sunxi community does.
