TechNexion Unveils EDM and AXON SoM’s Powered by NXP i.MX8M Plus SoC

A few days ago we wrote about Variscite’s NXP i.MX 8M Plus-powered AI systems-on-modules and devkits, and now it’s TechNexion’s turn to introduce its own SoM’s for artificial intelligence applications. Just like variscite, the company has two variants with EDM-G-IMX8M-PLUS following the EDM standard with a 260-pin edge connector, and AXON-E-IMX8M-PLUS part of the AXON family with board-to-board connectors better suited to vibration-prone applications. This week-end FanlessTech posted a tweet about Portwell PEB-9783G2AR Intel Xeon board featuring twenty USB 3.0 Type-A ports. After I retweeted it, some smart asses clever people noted it was just not enough:

So I took it as a challenge but miserably failed to find another board with more USB ports. But then I wondered… Are there any USB hubs with an insane amount of USB ports? It won’t be as good as the Portwell board which appears to include 5x USB 3.0 USB hub controllers, but it could still be interesting for people who don’t care too much about bandwidth. The winner in terms of the number of USB ports is Cambrionix SyncPad54 with a cool 54 USB ports. There are plenty of caveats though. Last year, Embest – an Avnet company – introduced MaaXBoard NXP i.MX 8M SBC mostly compatible with Raspberry Pi form factor and running Android 9.0 or Yocto Linux. The company has now launched MaaXBoard Mini with a 14nm NXP i.MX 8M Mini quad-core processor. In some ways, the new board follows more closely Raspberry Pi 3 Model B form factor with four USB 2.0 ports, instead of the two USB 3.0 ports found in the first version of the board, but it does so without HDMI output, leaving MIPI DSI as the only option for display output. Back in July of this year (2020), MYRI technology announced the MYIR’s FZ3 deep learning accelerator card powered by the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ ZU3EG Arm FPGA MPSoC and it is capable of delivering up to 1.2TOPS computing power. With only a few months since that launch, MYRI technology is now announcing another two related sets of products – FZ5 EdgeBoard AI Box and the FZ5 Card. The FZ5 EdgeBoard AI Box is an AI-focused computing platform that is based on the FZ5 AI Accelerator card which is an upgrade of the FZ3 card.
