SolidRun ClearFog Base is a $90 Router/Networking Board with USB 3.0, M.2, mSATA, and Gigabit Ethernet Support

SolidRun introduced ClearFog Pro and Base board based on Marvell Armada 380/388 processor at the end of last year, but at the time, only the higher-end ClearFog Pro board was available for $170 and up. Now the company has officially launched the cheaper ClearFog Base board based on the same processor, two Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports, one SFP cage, a USB 3.0 port, an M.2 slot, mPCIe expansion slot, and more. SolidRun ClearFog Pro and Base Router Boards Feature Marvell ARMADA 380/388 Processor

Last month, I wrote about Turris Omnia an upcoming open source hardware router board with 6 Gigbit Ethernet ports and an SFP cage powered by Marvell ARMADA 385 processor. SolidRun has now unveiled ClearFog Pro router board with similar features, but opting instead for either Marvell ARMADA 380 or 388 processor. Linux 6.11 Release – Notable changes, Arm, RISC-V and MIPS architectures

Linux 6.11 is out with Linus Torvalds’ announcement on the Linux kernel mailing list (LKML): I’m once again on the road and not in my normal timezone, but it’s Sunday afternoon here in Vienna, and 6.11 is out. The last week was actually pretty quiet and calm, which is nice to see. The shortlog is below for anybody who wants to look at the details, but it really isn’t very many patches, and the patches are all pretty small. Nothing in particular stands out – the biggest patch in here is for Hyper-V Confidential Computing documentation. Anyway, with this, the merge window will obviously open tomorrow, and I already have 40+ pull requests pending. DietPi 9.7 and Armbian 24.8 released with improved support for Rockchip, Amlogic, and Allwinner SBCs

Armbian and DietPi are two separate projects that provide Linux-based OS images optimized for Arm-based single board computers. The last time we had a look at both projects was in June with the release of Armbian 24.5.1 and DietPi 9.4, but there have been several updates since then including the releases of the latest DietPi 9.7 and Armbian 24.8 Yelt just a few days ago. So let’s check out the latest changes. SolidRun launches Hailo-15 SOM with up to 20 TOPS AI vision processor

In March last year, we saw Hailo introduce their quad-core Cortex-A53-based Hailo-15 AI Vision processor. The processor features an advanced computer vision engine and can deliver up to 20 TOPS of processing power. However, after that initial release, we didn’t find it in any commercial products with the SoC. But in a recent development, SolidRun has released a SOM that not only features the Hailo-15 SoC but also integrates up to 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 256GB eMMC storage along with dual camera support with H.265/4 Video Encoder. This is not the first SOM that SolidRun has released. Previously, we wrote about the SolidRun RZ/G2LC SOM, and before that, SolidRun launched the LX2-Lite SOM along with the ClearFog LX2-Lite dev board. SolidRun has just introduced the SolidWAN CN9131 SD-WAN appliance powered by a Marvell OCTEON CN9131 quad-core Cortex-A72 processor and with a compact form factor and features that makes it suitable for small offices. The Linux-based Software Defined-WAN appliance comes with 4GB to 8GB RAM, 8GB to 64GB eMMC flash storage, plus M.2 SATA and NVMe sockets, and offers four GIgabit Ethernet ports and two 10GbE SFP+ cages for networking connectivity, as well as two USB 3.0 ports. DIY SBC cases and SBC Case Builder tool based on OpenSCAD

Since you can’t always rely on single board computer (SBC) vendors to provide a case to match your needs, some went the DIY route. Willy Tarreau designed some laser-cut enclosures with Inkscape for various SBCs, while hominoids went a step further by developing the “SBC Case Builder” tool to automatically generate various types of 3D printable enclosures using OpenSCAD. Willy designed five similar enclosures for Khadas VIM3/VIM3L, FriendlyELEC NanoPi Fire3, SolidRun Clearfog Base networking SBC, Libre Computer AML-S805X-AC (aka “La Frite”), and AAEON UP Board. All cases are available in Inkscape SVG format, and Willy accepts contributions for other boards. You’ll need a laser engraver or CNC router to cut out those enclosures. Hominoids’ SBC Case Builder project attempt to automatize enclosure generation for SBCs using SBC Model Framework written in OpenSCAD.
