MINIX MINI HD PC Based on Intel Atom D2550 Sells for $119

MINIX MINI HD PC is a barebone x86 computer without RAM or hard disk that has been announced last year, and it has just come to my attention that the system sells for just $119 on Geekbuying (excluding shipping), so once you add (up to 4GB) DDR3 RAM, and a SATA hard drive, you may have a basic x86 Linux or Windows system for about $200.

The computer comes with a power adapter, a power cord, a user’s manual, and a driver and utility DVD. There are a few optional items, so you can’t be 100% sure you’ll get dual gigabit Ethernet and 2 USB 3.0 port for example.

  1. the last photo on the geekbuying page shows the real size.

I wonder how much does the total package weights

  2. I believe all GeekBuying.com prices include free China Post or Singapore Post shipping unless they explicitly state otherwise.

    Cheers,

That’s what I thought, but I tried to go through the ordering process, and for this particular product, the only option is “express shipping” where you can select either DHL or EMS. EMS is about $14 to the US so that’s quite reasonable.

According to Intel the D2550 is a 1.86Ghz processor the D2700 is 2.13Ghz. MiniX doesn’t list speed just processor on their website. Is Geekbuying inaccurate or is this overclocked?

  5. Guys, let me publish my unpopular opinion. I think its a crap. You can buy the board with integrated Atom last two years. I’m using such boards for building POS systems. In the beginning there was Atom D410, but today we got D2600. I’m talking about Intel Original boards and other manufacturers devices. I just checked Intel Original board are still avail starting from 65USD for Intel D2500HN board.

The case. I buy it starting from 30USD for good branded cases with PSU and card reader inside. Ebay shows same prices.

So making such device youself will be cheaper and you can choose boards with some specific needs. For example some of Intel boards have slots for desktop memory and other board – for laptop memory. I also like the boards with mini pci-e and lvds right on board. I even saw backlight controller on it.

On the other hand for 120USD you can try to buy netbook (used or new – depends how you’re lucky), which will have hdd + memory + display + kbd + already installed.

If you dont want laptop, just get its motherboard on ebay starting from 35USD and screw it up at Vesa point at the back of your display.

  6. Yes, there is one memory 2Gb DDR3, plus a hard disk 8Gb to SSD faster than SATA and especially more expensive on the market !
A command from the “France” has cost me with the delivery: 145 USD.
If you are a reseller, you can contact them to negotiate wholesale prices, I can not share here, but the prices are very attractive !

In short a good deal 😉

  7. This thing is a POS. Its just a mini ITX box with a drop in board. I got it for free and I’m about to throw it away, although probably at little fault of its own. The headaches I’m having with running 64 bit Windows 10 or 8.1 is just mind boggling (at least, if you want HDMI out to work, good luck installing Intel IGPU drivers on it). But to be fair I don’t think the Atom D2550 was really designed to in combination with this hardware. It’s a confusing mess when you look up 64 bit incompatibilities with this CPU.

32 bit works better, until you need .NET framework. Which Intel IGPU drivers do.

But the whole point is you can create this “computer” by buying a $20 mini itx case and a $50 integrated mitx board+cpu, it is in no way a good deal.

  8. Total shot in the dark here, as this is a rather old page. But, i am looking for drivers for this board. Picked one up on ebay, but it didn’t come with the driver CD.
