At the front of the device, there’s a Wi-Fi logo, a red power LED, and green Wi-Fi LED. All other connector are at the back: Wi-Fi antenna connector, micro USB for power, reset pinhole, optical S/PDIF, audio jack, and a USB host port.

I’ve also tried to open the device, and there are 4 screws under rubber pads on the bottom of the enclosure, but these are firmly tightened and slightly damaged, and I did not manage to remove them.

SoundMate M2 Review with Android

You can control this wireless audio streamer with iOS devices using Airplay or DLNA, Android deices with DLNA with apps such as BubbleUPnP, AllCast, UPnPlay, etc…, and computers using iTunes, Windows Media Player and other programs with DLNA functions. I’ve only tested it with an Android smartphone. Normally you’ll want to connect the device to speakers or an audio system, but I have neither, so I’ve just connected the audio cable to my TV for testing, and connected the power to start it.

You’ll need the IP address for your device which can be found on the bottom of the enclosure. The MAC address is not needed for configuration, but it starts with 845DD7

SoundMate_IP_AddressIn you Android phone, go to the Wi-Fi settings to locate soundmate_XXXX ESSID and connect to it. It’s using an open network by default, so there’s no password. Then go to your favorite web browser in your phone, and go to http://192.168.222.254, or whatever address there may be at the back of the device.

SoundMate_M2_WiFi_Web_Interface

The web interface provides access to 6 submenus:

  • File manager for USB storage which successfully found FAT32 and NTFS partition in my hard drive
  • Basic settings where you can change the “device name” (ESSID), and configure network security
  • Music service to change the streamer name (DLNA, Airplay..)
  • Internet Connection to configure the connection to your Wi-Fi router or 3G USB dongle.
  • Advanced settings to configure SAMBA and DMS (What’s that?) access. I have not tried either.
  • Upgrade Firmware to upgrade via USB.

The important part is to configure the Internet Connection to get access to your router while connected to SoundMate.

When you browse the file manager, and try to open a music file it will simply download it and ask you which app you want to open. There’s no way to tell the device to automatically play the audio files via the web interface, so that’s not too useful… I’m not really sure how to play files from the USB drive, maybe using SAMBA can help…

The Quick Start Guide lists several DLNA apps: Air buddy, All CVast, BubbleUPnP, ShareOn, UPnPlay, iMediaShare, N7 Player, and Air Music, but they also mention any app with DLNA function should work. At first I decided to install BubbleUPnP as it’s one of the most popular DLNA app. It worked at first, but after I tried to play an unsupported file, it stop working, refusing to play any audio files. So I decided to reboot the device, but it was not the culprit, as BubbleUPnP refused to play any files, even after exiting and restarting it. So instead I installed UPnPlay, and I could play most audio files from my phone, expect the first MP4 (.m4a) audio files I have as it’s not supported by SoundMate M2.

Previously, I tried to play music from my phone using EZCast dongles such as Tronsmart T1000 and WiDiCast EC-E2, and when outside, I started to have problems with a range of 6 meters or so, but SoundMate M2 is much better, as the audio plays fine as far as about 10 meters, and beyond that audio cuts are starting to show up. You can also control the volume from the phone, as with the other solutions.

  1. @rektide I also have a DIY version of this at home: Rygel is a really nice upnp suite for Linux, it has a great “play bin” that works as a MediaRenderer. Headless Marvell Kirkwood box that’s been running for years. Ultimately I still use MPD 3/4 the time, but UPnP is nice to have. It’s super simple to setup, I highly recommend it as a short side project.

Netcom is one factory who selling this ,UYESEE is the best manufacturer for wifi audio streamer products with a full range from highend ,mid-end to low end . Soundmate support streaming music from android /ios /mac/windows devices to speaker ,and support streaming from spority /pandora or other online music provider on IOS. One key function is soundmate supporting multi room or multi speaker streaming controlled by one device .

  3. SoundMate is also the only brand providing firmware upgrade service for this product in China, the forum support will come soon .

  4. @Ryan
Where can I download updated firmware for the device? I don’t seem to find any links on the manufacturer’s web site!

  5. Soundmate arrived today… but the menu of the device doesn’t show the “File management” and the “Advanced Settings” choices, despite being present in the User Manual. What’s the use for the USB port if there’s no way to see at least a USB pendrive?

  6. @FossXplorer
I have the Soundmate M1 version and it works reliably. It is also nice to have it run on batteries with USB powered speakers plugged into the devices’ USB socket.
I wouldn’t recommend it for a multi-room speaker setup because the playback drifts (losses sync) compared to other airplay destinations such as the airport express. I don’t know if this also applies to DLNA based playback.

  7. UyeSee ?????????????????

Try to be serious, your company does not provide support, in your site is inactive for several days to download.

If a buyer needs firmware that should do??

Before purchasing the products of this company, make sure you have assistance.

I don’t trust a company that has a site unusable in the download.

    A seller importer.

  8. Manages to to stream from android phone , ipod touch and tablet using various dnla apps no problem, but i cannot figure out how to styream music from laptop to soundmate, ive tried evertthing , what am I failing to do, any help would be great

  9. I sent a message to UyeSee a week ago advising them that none of the links on their site to firmware or manuals are working. No response or fix yet 🙁

  13. Hi!
What is the main difference between models SoundMate M2 and WM201?
What would you, guys, recommend to buy today?

  14. I need to synchronise music in different rooms which are to far to use bluetooth. So can I stream sounnd from my ipod to several M2 via Wi-Fi? Did anybody tried?

  15. The IP address in instructions, 192.168.222.254 does not load on any of my browsers or devices. I cannot access control panel on my M1 device to get access to Internet.
The ip on unit says 10.1.1.1 and that doesn’t load either

    Any suggestions?

  16. @Marc Spence
It’s been a while since I have used it. But if connecting to the ESSID (soundmate_XXXX) is successful, then it’s very weird that the IP on the box does not work.

But if it does not work, then like all routers, it should have a procedure to reset to factory settings listed in the user’s manual.

  17. @Marc Spence
The gateway is probably shown as being 10.1.1.1 or 10.1.1.254, and that gateway address should be the one you you need to access from your iPad. If it does not work, the device firmware might be corrupted?

You could try to re-install it the latest firmware @ http://www.filefactory.com/file/tpem6af2dzp/Uyesee_Soundmate%20firmware%20collection.rar (Source: http://chinagadgetsreviews.blogspot.com/2015/05/download-uyesee-soundmate-firmware.html), but if you can’t access the web interface, I’m not quite sure how you are supposed to do that…

  18. I tried those and they just time out.. I guess I should prob return :/
    Thanks for your help 🙂

  19. I have a Soundmate M1 – which are not showing any wifi anymore. I’ve tried to reset the device ( not sure this is right) by holding the reset bottom up til 30sec – But no effect at all – No light in Wifi – and are not showing anywhere -How do you connect to the device now ?

    1. The method to reset to factory settings should be indicated in the user manual. But if you don’t get LED light at all, maybe your device is broken. Normally, you should see an access point with your phone or computer’s WiFi.
