Rockchip Introduces RK3228H and RK3228B Processors for IPTV/OTT TV Boxes

Rockchip has just tweeted about their RK3xxx processors family, and two new processors appear to have been included in the list with Rockchip RK3228H quad core Cortex A53 processor and RK3228B quad core Cortex A7 processor both supporting 4K video playback and ouput, as well as HDR.

rk3228h-rk3228bRockchip RK3228H has many of the same features as Amlogic S905X with a quad core Cortex A53 processor, an ARM Mali-T450 GPU, 4K H.265/H.264 video support, and HDR10/HLG, but it also adds something extra with a USB 3.0 interface.  RK3328B is lower end with its quad core A7 processor, but still supports H.265/H.264 up to 4K resolution, and include the usual interfaces such as HDMI, CVBS, and a Fast Ethernet PHY.

  1. I brought an s905 based android tv box a few months back for about $23 and now it went back up in price. Hope that when Rockchip comes out with a competing product it will drive the price of amlogic chips. I wonder what happened to allwinner? Don’t see much in the pipeline for tablets and tv boxes.

  2. allwinner need to wake up and stop trying recycling their previous SOC designs at same outdated process with minor changes and marketing and now move them up and convert them to smaller nodes process at 20nm or 16nm : that ‘s all ! and allwinner should stop aiming highend and focus on low end AND powerefficiency

  3. Good to see HLG HDR supported. The BBC have started putting short test clips of HLG UHD content on their iPlayer catchup streaming/download service – starting with Planet Earth II clips. HLG looks to be a potential winner for broadcasters.

  4. I wonder if this signals the death of the RK3229 and whether what looks like a rushed decision to get something new to market is to combat the fact that the RK3399 is not going to hit TV boxes, at least at the cheaper end of the scale.

    They could also think more about the naming convention as people will get 3288 and 3228 mixed up.

  5. interested in the rk3228B , especially if it happens to be a process shrink evolution from 28nm rk3229 . process aside (which most probably will still be 28nm) does anybody know what are the advantages compared to rk3229 ?
