Rockchip Reveals RK3308 & RK3326 Evaluation Boards for Smart Speakers and Smart Displays

Rockchip introduced RK3308 & Gemini quad core Cortex-A35 processors for smart AI solutions last month, and now the company has shared one more tweet about evaluation boards based on RK3308 and RK3329 (Gemini) processors for respectively smart speakers and smart displays.

EVB-VA-RK3326 is a smart display evaluation platform powered by Rockchip RK3326 processor with four Cortex A35 core and a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. It comes with a main board, a microphone array, some speaker, and a display.

EVB-RK3308 looks very similar with instead feature a main board powered by RK3308 quad core Cortex A35 processor which supports  DDR3/DDR3L/LPDDR2/DDR2 memory, and comes with an audio codec with 8x ADC/2x DAC, support for 8-channel I2S/TDM, and USB 2.0 host + OTG interface(s).

That’s the only information we have since the company has not published any details on their website. If you represent a company and are interested in developing products based on those solutions, you should be able to contact Rockchip or distributor to get further information.

[Update: some new RK3326 development kits photos that give a bit more details (1GB RAM/8GB storage), and a new devkit: ECHO SHOW SDK board with 1GB RAM, 8GB flash, 720×1280 display, and Android 8.1

    1. Nope. I don’t even have details info about technical specs…
      Price of the kit will probably not matter to people who purchase it anyway, because Rockchip will likely only offer it companies making products in volume.

    Seems like this could be a follow up to all the quad Cortex A7/Mali 400 MP2 devices, providing much modern graphics supports. Can’t wait for the first TV Box to use this hardware.

    Surprised to see that same quad A7 solution still get support, as well as RK3288 with Oreo support. That’s at 2014 SoC still seeing mainstream Android support. Quite impressive.

    1. RK3326 seems to be really focused on the use case: no Ethernet and only one single USB 2.0 OTG interface. Would make up for a great Raspberry Pi successor with that less interfaces 😉 But since HDMI or DisplayPort is missing too…

      1. How would it even connect to a monitor 😉 Its a shame tho. But lets wait and see. Vendors have done crazier things in the past (Including a TV box with a SIM slot, potentially being able to use your box like some kind of weird phone).

        Really just wish these next gen SoC’s come to market, lately the TV box market is just variations on S905 or S912, nothing new in the CPU or GPU space. It also sucks that Mali 400 still gets a ton of support in a gaming sense. It probably costs but a penny, but to get richer experience, the lowest common denominator should move to Mali G31 and equivalents – which is what this SoC is atleast aiming at. We need to move away from Mali 400/450 levels of performance as the lowest ”standard”. 🙂
