GPD Pocket 2 Max mini Laptop Combines 8.9″ Display with Core m3-8100Y Amber Lake Processor

In recent years, companies like GPD and One Mix have launched tiny laptops with 6″ to 7″ displays. Those have the advantages of being ultra-portable, yet delivering pretty good performance thanks to Intel Kaby Lake-Y, Gemini Lake, and Amber Lake processors. Size can also be an inconvenient, even if your eyes are good enough for the tiny screens, the keyboard does not allow maximum productivity for most people.

GPD Pocket 2 Max mini laptop should improve on this as its 8.9″ display is still small by laptop standards, but it should be more readable, and the keyboard will also be larger.

GPD Pocket 2 Max

The mini laptop / 8.9″ ultrabook will be actively cooled, and ships with Window 10 Home 64-bit. We only have blurry shots of marketing materials, because the company has yet to provide details on their website or Facebook page, and instead they are showcasing the new mini laptop at ICEE Moscow. Pocket 2 Max is expected for Q2/Q3 2019 at a yet to be determined price.

If you are interested in this form factor, CHUWI minibook is another upcoming 8″ mini laptop which should be cheaper (and slower) with an Intel Celeron N4100 Gemini Lake processor.

    1. I believe, a ton of such displays was made three years ago for tablets, so it could very well be the most cost-effective solution.
Let’s see if the default orientation will be 90 degrees counter-clockwise, as with 1920×1200 on 7″ laptops.

    2. Why would that be nonsense? My phone has a 2560×1536 5.7″ lcd. And it is in np way close to as dense as panels can get. There are 4k 5″-6″ panels etc.

      1. Most Windows Applications are not coded for such high DPI, instead, they expect a 2560×1600 res to be linked to a 27″ monitor. At the same time, the Intel 615 GPU is no powerhouse so pushing 4M pixels of data around is hard work and a little pointless if all that is being done is scaling all the text and icons so that they can be seen on an 8.4″ screen.

    3. Display resolutions are getting quite insane for so long I’ve stopped even noticing them.
What killed me here —- 16GB f…g RAM??? On such a pocket toy, with this cpu??? WhatTheHell for? What are you gonna run there, stratix-class fpga synthesis?
Nostalgy kicked in – I just remembered my first desktop – big as hell, 486DX-2, 250MB hdd able to fit dos, win-nt3.5 AND linux with place to spare for each of them – AND whopping 16″M”B RAM, which meant we could create 12MB ram-disks and run pretty much any game from it in lightning speeds…
And that ram was still slower than the nvme disk in this joke.
