Samsung Exynos 1080 Octa-core Cortex-A78/A55 5G SoC includes Mali-G78 GPU

Arm Cortex-A78 CPU core and Mali-G78 GPU were announced in March 2020, and yesterday we covered the first Cortex-A78 processor with MediaTek MT8195 that should feature a Mali-G57 GPU.

But today, Samsung has announced the first SoC to combine both Cortex-A78 cores with Mali-G78 GPU. Exynos 1080 octa-core processor also includes a 5G NR modem, supports for LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 storage, and manufactured with a 5nm process.

  1. Kirin 9000 has Mali-G78 MP24, Mali-G78 MP10 looks like a joke here, since even 9000E has more than double the cores, 22
How can samsung expect this to be a flagship SOC in 2021?

    1. I second that, but it won’t be cheap. Probably would be in the $130-150USD price range. I’d love to see an Odroid-N3 with this powerful CPU/GPU. Remember when Odroid-XU3 was released in 2015 with a high end Samsung Octacore 5422 CPU.. It had a whooping price of $179.

    2. It includes a 5G modem on the SoC so its probably really expensive.
But damn would be really cool to get a Odroid board with something like that

    3. While it would be nice to see a new ODROID with a newer Exynos SOC, this is not the option for that. Pretty much most modern SOC designed for phones and tablets are useless for making a SBC.

Now if Samsung decided to stop using intel parts for their laptops/chromebooks and made their own SOC to use instead, then we may have something with the right stuff. Of course they would still need to release enough source code and technical details to make use of it.
