CES 2011 Main Attractions

Las Vegas CES 2011CES 2011 will be held in Las Vegas 6-9 January 2011 featuring 2700 exhibitors, including manufacturers and service providers for the audio, digital imaging, home theater, wireless, content and gaming markets.

Here are what may be the main attractions to look for at the event:

  • Lots of Tablets: Motorola is expected to demo Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) with a 10″ tablet based on NVidia Tegra 2 and announcement about Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (probably using the Tegra 2 as well) . Here’s a list of companies that will exhibit their tablets at CES 2011:
    • Acer – 7″/10″ Tablets running Android and Windows 7
    • Archos – Archos Gen 8 Devices: Archos 28/32/43/70/101 running Android
    • Asus – Eee Pad running Windows 7 and Android (March 2011 release)
    • Creative – ZiiO Pure Wireless Entertainment Tablets running Android.
    • Dell – 7″ Dell Streak running Android.
    • Entourage – Dual screen tablet (similar to the Kno) called Entourage eDGe with one screen using e-Ink (Black and White) and one color screen.
    • Fusion Garage – JooJoo Tablet 2 (Android)
    • LG – Android 3.0 Tablet: LG Optimus Pad (TBC)
    • Motorola – Honeycomb 10″ Tablet. Now known as the Droid Xoom
    • MSI – MSI WindPad 100 (Windows 7) / WindPad 110 (Android)
    • Notion Ink – 10″ Adam tablet / Android / NVidia Tegra 2
    • Samsung – 10″ Galaxy Tab
    • Toshiba – Folio 100 tablet
    • ViewSonic – ViewPad 7, ViewPad 10 and gTablet
  • Internet Television (Smart TV): Expect updates and demos with Google TV (Although there are some rumors that Google asked its partners not to do so) and Divco will showcase their Android media player (Tvix Xroid A1) based on Sigma Designs SMP8656. There should also be more 3D HDTV than last year.
  • Wireless: New products will be announced using ZigBee RF4CE, Zigbee/Wi-Fi gateways, Wifi-Direct for peer-to-peer connection without access point and Z-Wave enabled devices for home automation.
  • LTE / 4G Mobile Network: US Carriers will provide more details about their 4G plans and showcase LTE smartphones.
  • Microsoft may unveil Windows OS for ARM platform, a new range of tablets to compete with the iPad and possibly updates about Windows 8.
