$32 iPush Wi-Fi DLNA / Miracast Adapter for Android

Last time I wrote about Miracast / DLNA dongles, the price was about $55, but today I’ve found a new device closer to my target price ($25) with IPUSH Miracast adapter that sells for $31.90 on DealExtreme. [Update: Several users report it’s only a DLNA dongle, and it does not support Miracast yet]

IPUSH_Miracast_Adapter

Here are the specifications according to DealExtreme:

  • SoC – Allwinner A10s Cortex A8 + Mali-400 GPU
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
  • USB – 1x micro USB port for power
  • Video Output – HDMI 1.4
  • Supports DLNA and Miracast mode
  • Power – 5V / 0.5A

The device comes with an HDMI cable and a micro USB cable used to connect the device to your TV HDMI and USB ports, or if your TV lacks USB, a USB power adapter.

However, I’ve done a little more research, and it turns out iPush is also a product designed by Action Semi, that just does the same thing, and with the same enclosure. zol.com.cn wrote about an event showing a Miracast demo with iPush and an Android 4.2.2 tablet powered by ATM7029. It could be DX.com got the specs wrong, or it’s just a product with the same casing but different board.

The specifications are as follows:

  • CPU –  ACTIONS SEMI ATV6003 @ 400MHZ
  • Memory – 64M DDR2
  • Storage – 16M Nor Flash
  • Video Output – Standard HDMI interface
  • Wi-fi – 802.11 b/g/n (Support for Wi-Fi Direct)
  • USB – Hi-speed micro USB
  • Video formats – AVI, WMV, RM, 3GP, MKV, MP4, ASF, VOB, MPG, TS, TP, DVIX, MOV up to 720p
  • Power supply – 5V / 500mA via micro USB  port
  • Dimensions –  63 x 22 x 9.5 mm
  • Weight – 15 grams

The device runs Linux, and is said to be compatible with Bubbleupnp and Skifta, both of which are UPnP/DLNA Android apps. Some resellers tell you to install iPush APK on your smartphone or tablet in order to use the device. Please note that the maximum resolution is 720p, which may be fine, as many smartphones / tablets may have issues to handle Miracast 1080p smoothly. This device competes directly in terms of features and price with the upcoming Rockchip RK2918 Miracast adapter. If you search for “ATV6003”, you’ll find several companies offering DLNA/Airplay/Miracast dongles with different casings, but most of them do not appear to be for sale just yet. DealExtreme actually sells another device it calls D2 with ATV6003 for $33, but only mentions DLNA and Airplay, and not Miracast.

Bear in mind that resellers sometimes add “Miracast” in the description because it helps selling their device, but it’s not properly supported, at least with the current firmware. According to customers’ reviews, DLNA/UPnP appears to be working fine however.

  1. @CNX: can you explain: can I use this device with an iPad to play video content from the iPad to the TV? If so, would I need to install additional software on the iPad?

  2. @Sander
It’s hard to say, but “Airplay” is not shown at all in the description… Airplay is however supported in “D2”, the other very similar device I mention at the end of the post.

  3. I bought it today at Focalprice for u$ 25 using a $2 new customer cupon. Well, after it delivers i will write my impressions about it.

  4. What is the procedure to upgrade the firmware (assuming it can be upgraded)?

The manual doesn’t say anything about firmware upgrades.

  5. On firmware. I figured out that you can access the device through the IP address 192.168.43.1. You can change the language to English and there is a firmware upgrade screen. The question is, from where can you get new firmware?

  6. @cnxsoft
I cracked mine open. It has the Action ATV6003.

I am pretty disappointed that this does not do Miracast.

Do you know where to look to for updated firmware?

  7. @lawguy
So that should be one Actions Semi demonstrated with Miracast support (See link in my post: http://mp3.zol.com.cn/369/3697348.html)
I’m not sure how to get the firmware. As long as there’s no specific license to pay for Miracast support, you might be able to get it.

You can try to check markings on the PCB to find the manufacturer. Alternatively you could do a MAC address lookup to find the company, but I’m not sure if this will return the Wi-Fi module company, or the company who manufactured the end-device.

  8. The only PCB marking that seems to mean anything says: iP6003LJ-v4

I guess that the “iP” stands for “iPush.”

No big deal. It was cheap enough and you always take a risk when you buy this direct-from-China stuff. Sometime you luck out and sometimes you get something that is junk or does not do what is advertised.

  9. @onebir
Yes, there’s an app for that… But if you don’t have a TV stick, and just want DLNA/Airplay support, this is cheaper.
I wonder why they don’t include Miracast since they’ve demonstrated it a few months ago…

  10. @Thiago
Well, after one day of using i got some impressions:

Ios: it doesn’t works with apple in apps. The only way i made it works was through IMedia Share. It works fine with sd mivies but it lacks a lot with hd movies. Works fine for music, too.

Android: the same with ios but it has an official app at play store. It works very well with music, with beautiful screen. Its performance is better with imedia share, too because you have youtube and other sources to play online content.

Overall: maybe for testing and improvements could worth purchasing but for me that i am not a developer or something like its a big waste of money. I will sell it and buy an Android dongle because its what i need.

  11. I bought mine on Ebay. I contacted the seller. They said that the product was misrepresented to them. They agreed to take it back.

  12. Hmmm… too bad I forgot to google and search to see whether it supports Miracast before buying it… 🙂 nevertheless, got it now – so if someone finds a firmware, would love to hear about it.

    Regards,

    Nika.

  13. Btw, my firmware version i 1.1.10.130608en so it does seem there’s updates from somewhere…

  14. Works great with airplay showing pictures and videos after connecting the iOS device directly to the ipush wifi-network.

  15. Did anyone find a URL for possible firmware updates – I have been looking everywhere and found nothing? Airplay from iPhone works well on music and videos but I’d really like to get full mirroring working.

  16. Is it possible to login from the linux console to this stick, or is this android on board?

Maybe that this stick will support native linux decoding

  17. @menno
It should be Linux. For console access, somebody would have to provide PCB pictures, so that we can look at it.
The stick definitely supports native linux video decoding, but I’m not quite sure which codecs. H.264 at least, for others who knows…

  18. I would love an app for Win RT but I guess that I can forget that? Since Miracast should be integrated with win 8.1, I bought it. Now I guess my “last hope” ist an DLNA – App?

Anyone tried it with Win RT?

  19. only the 128M version supports airplay. So, you need to make sure you get that rather than the 64.
Even so, it sounds like mirroring doesn’t work, only airplay.

Thank you for your inquiry, iPush D2 have 2 version, one is sku.218502 External link with 64M DDR, and it supports DLNA only, it doesn’t support Airplay. Another is sku.222491 External link with 128M DDR, it supports both DLNA and Airplay.
Personally I tried this item sku.222491 External link before it’s added, and it does supports Airplay, so the one you bought from other site may be sku.218502 External link. You can use app which supports DLNA on you iOS device.
Hope this will help and wish you a nice day.

AirPlay works for audio and videos BUT AirPlay Mirroring DOES NOT WORK this was the only reason i bought this P.O.S!!
    <<<

  20. @valley_nomad
Those are two different kind of products. AFAIK Chromecast is only available in the US (for now), where this one is available worldwide.
The biggest problem for iPush is not the Chromecast, but the fact that it may not work that well.

  21. Hi !

    Today i got this version:
    http://www.ebay.de/itm/271228774179

It costed 22,49 Euro so … WHATEVER !

It definately works with DLNA & Airplay but of course NOT Miracast…
Of course i have an Android HDMI STick and the Software MirrorOps so that one can act as versatile Miracast receiver.

How would one update the Firmware, do you think there is hope they will deliver miracast later ?

    Greetings,

    Nils

  22. First off, I bought one off eBay, mine came with firmware v1.1.10.130619.
So it looks like they do have updates for this, but they’re not releasing it.
If anyone has a newer version, please let us know by posting the version number.

Secondly, I would like to mention that the 1 advantage this has over chromecast is that on android, you can send any video your watching directly to the iPush using allshare (which is preloaded, at least on samsung devices), just click the “change player” on top of the screen while watching a video to send it to the iPush. No 3rd software required.

Lastly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, this device does not work on BOTH of my older Panasonic TVs. 1 tv has audio, but no video, and the other has no video or audio. Does anyone else have this problem, if you do please post. I’ve tried the chromecast, and it works correctly on the two tvs. I’ve been trying to find the manufacturer’s contact info to report this to them, but had no luck. Can anyone help me find a way to contact them? Thanks.

  23. I just picked one up off of Amazon – running 1.1.10.130619

It does not work with my Panasonic TV (P50VT25), though it does work through some others. This makes it problematic for travelers.

Miracast does not work, DLNA does. AirPlay works for audio, mirroring does not. AirPlay Video depends on the app.

Build quality is not great, but acceptable, and there is no way to tell from the unit or packaging which sku you have. The device also really ought to be able to check for firmware updates. Dealing with the chinese is a factor (both configuring the device for English and dealing with the developer website).

If the HDMI connectivity issues can be fixed in firmware, then it is a reasonable device for the price. Airplay mirroring and miracast would of course make it very appealing.

  24. @Stephen
Same here, streaming from ipad, found youtube worked over airplay as well as some web-based videos on places like cnn.com. HBOGo gave a network error on the ipush when attempted over airplay. Since screen mirroring isn’t supported, Netflix streaming failed as well.

  25. Dear Gents,

I plan to buy this kind of product. Please share your opinion with me. Let me expalin what I plan to use this stuff. I do not need any native internet streaming and browsing capability, not even to mirror the screen (but that would have been useful). I just would like to obviate the necessity of the HDMI cable, when I am playing movies from my notebook. My TV is on the opposite corner of the room and I always have to move the laptop right front of the TV (it is not an option to use a long enough HDMI cable). That would be also more than welcome if we can connect any notebook in the house to one single device as the ocassion demands.

As I can understand this is not working as easy as the solution when we connect the laptop to the monitor / TV with an HDMI cable to extend our notebook’s screen, am I right? Do we need a special program to play the movies from the laptop on the TV or is it working as a connection between the laptop and the monitor / TV via HDMI cable and the only difference is just we cannot mirror just extend the screen and we can easily drag and drop the movie player onto the TV’s screen?

Could you please share me a link to a video (if there is any) where I can see this stuff in action between a notebook – TV or could someone be so kind to do such a video and upload? 🙂

Thanks in advance for all your effort and hints!

PS.: I am open to other cheap solutions. I do not want to use an HDMI android mini PC… I need a simple solution what could provide only what I want, which is an HDMI cable killer. 🙂

  26. @onebir
That’s the one. The device already sells for $25 on Dealextreme, and probably on Aliexpress too.
But as one commenter explained there seems to be 2 versions, so this complicates things.

  27. I ordered 3 of these devices and shipped back the first 2 because I thought they were broken, when I received the third device it did not work either, I could connect to the WiFi on the iPush but never got anything to display. I took it to a friends house and it worked with no issues, I have 3 Panasonic TV’s (different models / with the latest firmware) in my house and it will not work on any of them. It is a neat device but completely useless if you own a Panasonic TV

  28. I think you may have misunderstood my comment. Yes, my dongle has airplay but it does not mirror fully (which is what I think most people would want from this device i.e. play games through it etc). This dongle will allow you to push music through it (their is a slight delay when transmitting) and it sends images (e.g. from your photo library on your iPhone). It does not support video (for example from Youtube or videos taken by the onboard camera). I purchased another similar dongle called an S-Push but I think it is fair to say, it is the same unit in a slightly different casing.

I’m now looking at this dongle (referred to as an iDongle or Phone2TV):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2Y0uM1EZb8
    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Best-miracast-wireless-display-tv-hdmi-dongle-support-airplay-DLNA-mirror-image-for-IOS-smart-mobile/413845_1256249011.html

I have spoken to the manufacturer and they claim it does do true Airplay mirroring (i.e. you can play games and video through it). I’ll let you know when I get it!

  29. My problem is that it won’t connect to my router (hidden SSID). When I fill all the Network data in the screen says “out of scope”… any ideas?

  30. I just got my IPUSH D2 in the mail. It carries fw 1.1.10.130619. Not sure how long it has been on the shelf etc, but it seems as if this is still the latest version shipped. If anyone finds out where to get an update please enlight me! 🙂

  32. got ipush d2 a month ago…
    firmware version is 1.1.10.130617…
@Jens,please let me know what version is the link you provided…
    thanks for uploading anyway…

  33. @afigucan
So… after the upgrade from @jen, does this ipush version 1 ( non D2) can do airplay mirroring?

  34. i downloaded the new firmware upg file
and then connect to it thru wifi and browse to the upg file on my laptop
    but when i pressed start,the device disconnects…
so how do i apply/upgrade the firmware?
    someone please help me…
    @afigucan
    how did you update it?

  35. I have been experimenting with one of these for a while. Here are my discoveries;
It work’s far better with iOS6 than iOS7. With iOS7 (iPhone5) it erratically switches to saying the iPush can only support audio (speaker icon instead of monitor). This does not happen on iPadMini iOS6 which always reports a monitor (video & audio). I have another stable Vu+ satellite box that does airplay too and suffers similar problem. This would suggest iOS7 is to blame for this aspect.
It successfully pushes audio & video to an old Hitachi 720p Plasma (~2005) and Samsung 1080P LED 26 BUT is sensitive to media the being played. You Tube worked. iTunes Music videos worked. iTunes films did not. Trying to push other streamers…. Good Player, VLC etc just responded in audio.
So so far it can work and it can do some opf what it states, but there are certain incompatibilities and my original objective was to stream TV that originates on my satellite box through my iPhone and ‘project’ onto a non-networked TV. I think I may have to look for a streaming app which is compatible with the iPush and an iPhone7

  36. @Shadow I’m curious how you achieved this: I connected to the device with wifi and uploaded the upg file via the update tab of the control admin area. The device then disconnects and I cannot re-connect to it via any method. The unit lights up but nothing else. Any ideas? When I connect it to a TV, all I get is a picture of the earth in the middle of the screen.

  37. I just got the iPush yesterday. It carried with firmware version 1.1.10.130619. AirPlay video streaming worked fine from my iPad under IOS 7, also streaming from my LaCie network drive. Today I upgraded the firmware with the link I found here and now Airplay is broken, and audio is distorted. Does anybody know where I can find the old firmware version to downgrade the device?

  38. @Jens, where did you get this firmware from? I upgraded the firmware of my iPush and now Airplay no longer works and audio is distorted. I would like to downgrade to firmware version 1.1.10.130619, that worked fine with IOS7 and DLNA devices. Any help is appreciated!

  39. @Adam Toon
It just happens after 2 or 3 attempts to update it
    afterwards,it’s just ok…
one thing i suspect is,it needs a very specific and particular voltage of the USB port on the TV otherwise,
it won’t function…the margin must be really narrow because i can’t get to operate it with none of the laptop USB ports and several of the desktops’ USB ports…only a few ports work fine and also none of the AC-USB chargers can’t get it to work except for the blue LED…so may be it’s not the firmware’s problem but rather the input voltage or current…I am not sure which…
since my intention is mirrorcast and airplay mirroring,i am also considering to buy this one…

  40. I just got this in the mail, and my TV isn’t recognizing it. I get an error saying that the resolution isn’t supported. I’ve got a Samsung Plasma if that helps. Please advise. thanks.

  41. @Lance
I updated my device from firmware 1.1.10.130619 to the latest firmware as described in your post and now the audio is always distorted, it worked fine before the update, any advice?

  42. @Jens

  43. Had this working with Air-play together with iOs 6.x. Now upgraded to iOs 7.x andlost functionality over WI-FI. Still works with Direct Connect via Air-play. Also lost ability to stream Picture. Probably new firmware needed, but where to prompt for updates?

    / ToJo

  44. Hi

You guy’s seem to know what you’re doing. I just got one of the little things home today. And I can not get it to connect to my wifi. I managed to connect my ipohone to the tv by using it but can’t use any streaming services as I can’t connect to my wireless network. The IP adress that it says to type in to my browser does not work. I’m not good at this sort of thing and when the instructions doesn’t work I feel kind of lost. anyone got any ides?

  45. @Josephine

do you have a laptop ore a pc that has a wifi connection? Try to connect directly to the iPush with that through wifi, the name and password should be shown on the tv screen if the dongle is connected and powered on. Once you are connected to the iPush directly through wifi, open the internet browser on your pc/laptop and type in the IP address shown on your tv screen. A settings page should load in your browser. Here you can choose your home wifi network that you want the iPush to connected to. Good luck!

  46. I bought one of these and it don’t work, on my tv its showing an error Resolution mismatch! change Device’s resolution, the version is 1.1.10.130619, my ipad mini is IOS7

  47. @ray0006
I have just received this Reko Q10 dongle. First thing that confused me (perhaps I should read the instructions better in future) is that you connect a mouse to to access the configuration settings (whilst the dongle is connected to a TV via the HDMI connector).

Initially, the dongle kept saying out of range – it was basically unable to selected the correct display format for the screen I was using (720p 50mhz / 720 60mhz etc.. etc..). After resetting a few buttons on the dongle, it sprung into action.

The dongle appears to be using some kind of Android operating system – not sure what.

The dongle would show as a connectible network on my iPhone 5 but I could not get the Airplay icon to show/work once connected.

The good thing was that their is an update menu on the configuration screen, which connects with a server and searches for updates. On doing this, I found an update was needed for it to work with iOS7. After the update, it still does not work.

I maybe missing something – I’ll update with any other finds on this dongle.

  48. Hello Adam. I have received my REKO q10 dongle. Connected to my BRAVIA TV KLV-50WR704A. It showing some kind of android software on screen, showed as “iDongle”.
U can access the setting menu using wired or wireless mouse.
I have successfully airplay ipad3 6.1 jailbroken with youtube, dailymotion, movie box and photo app.
BUT THE SAD THING is it does not seem supporting full airplay mirroring.
It able to show the ipad screen to TV, but swiping between page is sooo laggy, almost 3-4 sec delay, then the connection ended by itself.
TV just showing blank black screen with mouse cursor.
You may want to share your trial and findings as well. Appreciate it. Thanks.

  49. Hi, I’m right at the bottom of the learning curve on this technology, so any help would be really appreciated.

Bought an iPush D2 and have it plugged into my Samsung TV. All good so far. Can access it wirelessly and have add my router’s IP of 192.168.1.1 successfully.

I’m looking for software that I can run on my Windows 7 laptop but all I’ve found so far is something in Chinese which is not my native language. And I’m not even sure if it was the right software!

Any clues, comments, help, or URLs etc., would be really great. Thanks. R.

  50. REKO Q10 Dongle Update:

Okay, 2 days after the first firmware update, another one appeared when I clicked the ‘updates’ button in the configuration panel. It said it fixed a bug with airplay accessibility in iOS7 (which was exactly my problem!).

After the update, I finally got it to work. But as ‘Stratus’ mentioned, it is very laggy – I’m using an iPhone 5 running iOS7 that is not jailbroken. It also crashes whenever it feels the need. The videos on Youtube make out that the mirroring is very quick – not 2 to 3 seconds behind… disappointing!

I have a couple of older iPod Touches that are running iOS6 – these do not work at all with the dongle.

Stranger still, I can only get it work if I connect the dongle to my home network and then connect my phone to the same home network. If I use the dongles own wifi network, I can connect to it on my iPhone and press the ‘airplay’ button on any app – but nothing happens on the TV with the dongle connected to it.

  51. REKO Q10 update:
Thanks Adam for your update. I am actually give up when get to know your same disappointment of this dongle performance.
I also have ipad 2 5.1.1 jailbroken, iPhone 4S 6.1.2 jailbroken. Strangely, those all i-thing with 6.xx can work with the dongle but really laggy and crashed/ ended by itself.
Same symptom as I can’t make it work by using its own wifi network. Nothing is happening on airplay.

Try to update online, but it is said I have already got the latest version.

Have contacted ebay seller to confirm this issue. Will update again later. Over & Out.

  52. REKO Q10 update:

Purchased one of these from eBay. Had it working perfectly with 27″ imac 2011 streaming 1080p. However Reko Q10 had to be 2 feet away from my wireless router. After updating idongle from v 1.0.0.7 to 1.0.0.9 mirroring is now extremely laggy and stuttery and videos appears pixulated. I would really love to role back the update or reflash if possible?

  54. Is there any new firmware? I have 0619.

    Two major problems:
    1. Slideshow from iphone/ipad doesn’t work. Single photo OK, if start slideshow, there’s a pause of 3 seconds, and… back to photo. No slideshow.

    2. No any video works. Even any video captured by iphone/ipad. It says “Invalid resolution”. Also tried from HTC Android. Same problem.

  55. How can I downgrade to the 1.1.10.130619 firmware ?
I have upgrade to the130815.130917 firmware and all is a great disaster in my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 !!!
    Audio, airplay, wifi configuration, etc

  57. @Antonio
I have a Samsung and Panasonic TV, both working. Any further information you could provide? Is there a blue light coming from your iPush once plugged in?

  58. @Pac

    hi pac

    it dosent work at all

try to connect to the ip adress with my router.
    dosent work…

    WHY !!!

    thanks

  59. @Eric
Try to conect directly, in any browser, to the IP address of dongle, usually 192.168.1.44.
Connect your iphone (mac or pc) to the private wifi created by the dongle previously, of course
    good luck !

  60. I am not a tech guy, just bought this Ipush thing, Can someone explain to me in dummy terms how can I get this Ipush thing to connect to my HP laptop and my Iphone 4gs? The App does not recognize my devices. It recognizes my HTC but not the others?

    Tks.

  61. @Adam Toon
Adam Toon have you solved the problem after upgrade your Ipush D2? – I connected to the device with wifi and uploaded the upg file via the update tab of the control admin area. The device then disconnects and I cannot re-connect to it via any method. The unit lights up but nothing else. Any ideas?
