Parallella Desktop Computer Board Price Drops to $99 (Temporary)

Parallella “super computer” board with Xilinx Zynq-7010 ARM+FPGA SoC and Adapteva’s 16-core Epiphany coprocessor may have started at $99 uring their Kickstarter campaign, but once the board became more broadly available, price started at $119 for the microserver version, and $149 for the desktop computer version which adds a micro HDMI port, a micro USB port, and some expansion I/Os. But to get rid of some stock, the company has decided to temporary decrease the desktop version price to $99 on Amazon.

I checked a few sites, but I couldn’t an answer: is there any ready-to-use software that uses the 16 cores of the Parallella board? For example ‘unrar’ or some other software that can do parallel processing?

Ha, they include a fully sized heatsink. It’s now official the original one was undersized. I’d love to buy just that heatsink …

Wonder if this means the 64 core boards are coming out soon?

@onebir their communication hints at new products but too vague to tell if it will be the 64core planned originally.

should be so…but from real users of Parallela’s forum – Hardware problems and workarounds isn’t so (https://parallella.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=1973)

In case anyone is interested, the founder/ceo of Parallela was recently on the amphour podcast. He talks many things about the design, the kickstarter campaign, plans for the future, etc. A good listen!

@Jibril
Even with such a large heat sink ? The tiny one they gave at the last minute required a fan for sure. I hoped that having a full sized heat sink would cancel the need for a fan.
