F&S Elektronik PicoCore MX8MM System-on-Module Features NXP i.MX 8M Mini Processor

Embedded World 2019 will take place at the end of this month on February 26-28 in Nuremberg, Germany, and we can expect plenty of news related to embedded systems. It’s very likely NXP i.MX 8M Mini processor will officially be launched, and we’ll see several modules and boards announced with the lower cost 14-nm processor.

F&S Elektronik Systeme has already been promoting their upcoming PicoCore MX8MM system-on-module based on NXP i.MX 8M in their newsletter ahead of Embedded World, where they’ll showcase their solutions at booth 621 in hall 2.

PicoCore MX8MM specifications:

The company will provide Linux Buildroot/ Yocto with uboot for the module, as well as Windows Embedded 10 IoT Core (later this year), and FreeRTOS real-time operating system. There will be a starter kit with baseboard and accessories, but the company has yet to publish information.

There’s no availability nor pricing information, except the module will have long term availability until 2029. A few more details may be found on the product page.

Beside the i.MX 8M Mini SoM above, the company will also showcase their ArmStone MXM8 Pico-ITX board based on the NXP i.MX 8M processor, as well as eFus MX8X SoM equipped with i.MX 8X Cortex A35/M4 SoC, and expected to launch in Q3 2019.

  1. So the 3W is for the single, dual or the quad configs? Also 8GB LPDDR4 option is nice but a corresponding price point would be apt : )

  2. Does anyone know if the imx8 is able to run blob free incl. all its peripherals? If not, what are blobs needed for? Graphics? Video engine?

    1. Vivante GPUs are covered by etnaviv FOSS driver, though I don’t know if the latest Vega architecture is supported as well (a sidenote, as imx8M does not have that). Everything else is very well documented by Freescale, who are a staple of documentation in our e-waste world.
