ZOTAC ZBOX PI336 PICO mini PC gets an Elkhart Lake upgrade with Intel Celeron N6211

The last time we wrote about the ZOTAC ZBOX PICO PI336 mini PC it featured an Intel Celeron N4100 Gemini Lake processor, but the company appears to have launched an upgrade with an Intel Celeron N6211 Elkhart Lake processor instead.

The new ZBOX PI336 PICO fanless mini PC also gets more storage up to 128GB eMMC flash, but the rest of the specifications remain pretty much the same with 4GB RAM, HDMI & DisplayPort video outputs, three USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFI, and Bluetooth, although some of the interfaces got a version bump for additional performance.

Microsoft says that “Windows 10 pro N is just Windows 10 Pro without Windows Media Player and related technologies pre-installed including Music, Video, Voice Recorder, and Skype”. So I’d assume it is to comply with European antitrust regulations.

The mini PC ships with a universal power adapter with multiple plugs, a mounting bracket with screws, a CTIA / OMTP adapter for the headphone jack, a warranty card, a Quick Install Guide, and a USB drive with O/S Recovery.

Netbookcheck.net very recently published a review about the mini PC translated from their German website that concluded it was “a weak office PC”, and I would certainly agree that it would be, except I’m not sure that’s the intended use case, as ZOTAC says the Elkhart Lake mini PC can be used as a media hub (HTPC), security device, or digital signage solution.

ZOTAC ZBOX PI336 PICO mini PC appears to have primarily launched in Europe as it was brought to our attention by AndroidPC.es pointing out it was selling on Amazon Spain for about 454 Euros, and we could also find it on other stores such as Mindfactory (Germany) for under 370 Euros. Additional information may also be found on the product page.

  1. Too bad it is not powered by a USB C port, so it could be more portable and powered by a power bank.

For that price I could buy several refurbished Lenovo tiny computers that have more performance and more RAM.

  2. I use older zBoxes as routers. Ones that had two Ethernet ports. Of course this has only one port.

I wonder how bad a USB Ethernet dongle would be.

My current project is to see whether a Tipton miniPC with 4 ports is any good.
