MediaTek Helio G35 & G25 Entry-Level SoCs Feature MediaTek HyperEngine Game Technology

Mediatek Helio G35 & Helio G25

MediaTek Helio G-Series mobile processors come with optimization for gamers including HyperEngine game technology with network optimizations reducing lag and improving connection reliability, faster responses to taps, improved picture quality, and better resources management to avoid thermal throttling. So far, the company had integrated the HyperEngine technology into premium SoCs such as Helio G80 or Helio G90T powered by Cortex-A75/A76 cores, and BiFrost GPUs. There are aggressively Helio G90T priced phones such as Redmi Note 8 Pro going for about $240, but to address the lower-end side of the market, MediaTek has now introduced Helio G35 and G25 octa-core Cortex-A53 SoC with HyperEngine Game Technology. Helio G35 & G25 specifications: Processor Helio G25 – Octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU @ 2.0 GHz Helio G35 – Octa-core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU @ 2.3 GHz GPU Helio G25 – Imagination PowerVR GE8320 up to 650MHz Helio G35 – Imagination PowerVR GE8320 up to 680MHz […]

Getting a 3-inch Smartphone in 2020? You can with Unihertz Jelly 2 (Crowdfunding)

3-inch smartphone 2020

Most smartphones have 5″ or larger displays these days as it’s just more convenient to read emails, browse the web, or play games, than the smaller displays we had ten years ago. But some people may still prefer smaller smartphones that are lighter and really fit into any pockets. Those are just pretty hard to find, luckily some companies such as Unihertz are filling the needs for this niche market. Two years ago, the company introduced the Unihertz Atom smartphone with a 2.4″ display, and earlier this year launched Atom XL 4″ smartphone, but the company is now preparing to launch a new crowdfunding campaign for Jelly 2 smartphone powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 processor and equipped with a 3-inch display. Unihertz Jelly 2 specifications: SoC – MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core with four Arm Cortex-A73 up 2.0 GHz and four Arm Cortex-A53 up to 2.0 GHz, Arm Mali-G72 MP3 […]

MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ 5G Mobile SoC Supports 144Hz FHD+ Displays, 5G UltraSave Technology, and More

Mediatek Dimensity 1000+

MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G processor for premium mobile devices was announced in Q4 2019 with eight Cortex-A77/A55 cores, an Arm Mali-G77 MC9, and APU 3.0 AI coprocessor. Since then, several companies have announced plans to launch Dimensity 1000 smartphones with products such as Astro Slide 5G Transformer. But while there aren’t any Dimensity 1000 phones available for sale just yet (AFAIK), MediaTek has already announced an updated version with Dimensity 1000+ (Dimensity 1000 Plus). The new version of the processor runs the CPU and GPU cores at the same frequencies, and the differences are instead in other specific features of the processor, as we’ve highlighted below. MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ specification: Processor 4x Arm Cortex-A77 @ 2.6GHz 4x Arm Cortex-A55 @ 2.0GHz DynamIQ heterogeneous multi-processing technology GPU – 9-core Arm Mali-G77 MC9 AI Coprocessor – APU 3.0 hexa-core AI accelerator with 2x big cores, 3x small cores, and 1x tiny core […]

MediaTek Caught Cheating but Says Benchmarks Just Represent Peak Performance

MediaTek Cheating

Silicon vendors have been cheating in benchmarks for years, mostly by detecting when popular benchmarks run and boost the performance of their processors without regard to battery life during the duration of the test in order to deliver the best possible score. There was a lot of naming and shaming a few years back, and we did not hear much about benchmarks cheating in the last couple of years, but Anandtech discovered MediaTek was at it again while comparing results between Oppo Reno3 Europe (MediaTek Helio P95) and China (MediaTek Dimensity 1000L) with the older P95 model delivering much higher performance contrary to expectations. Cheating was suspected, so they contact UL to provide an anonymized version of PCMark so that the firmware could not detect the benchmark was run. Here are the before and after results. As noted by Anandtech, the differences are really stunning: a 30% difference in the […]

Linux 5.6 Release – Main Changes, Arm, MIPS & RISC-V Architectures

Linux 5.6 Changelog

Linus Torvalds has just announced the release of Linux 5.6 on the Linux Kernel Mailing List: So I’ll admit to vacillating between doing this 5.6 release and doing another -rc. This has a bit more changes than I’d like, but they are mostly from davem’s networking fixes pulls, and David feels comfy with them. And I looked over the diff, and none of it looks scary. It’s just slightly more than I’d have preferred at this stage – not doesn’t really seem worth delaying a release over. So about half the diff from the final week is network driver fixlets, and some minor core networking fixes. Another 20% is tooling – mostly bpf and netfilter selftests (but also some perf work). The rest is “misc” – mostly random drivers (gpio, rdma, input) and DTS files. With a smattering of fixes elsewhere (a couple of afs fixes, some vm fixes, etc). […]

MediaTek Helio P95 Processor Launched with APU 2.0 AI Accelerator, Faster Graphics

MediaTek Helio P95

MediaTek has just unveiled an upgrade to its Helio P90 processor. MediaTek Helio P95 still features the same APU 2.0 engine for AI accelerator but with a 10% performance improvement based on ETH Zurich benchmark, and the PowerVR GM 9446 GPU clock has been increased as well to deliver a 10% graphics performance boost. The company also claims a “60% shorter GPU rendering-to-display pipeline”, but it’s unclear whether the comparison is against the P90 processor or other “typical” Arm processors. MediaTek Helio P95 key features and specifications: CPU – 2x Arm Cortex-A75 processors @ 2.2GHz and 6x Arm Cortex-A55 processors @ 2.0GHz using DynamIQ technology GPU – Imagination PowerVR GM 9446 GPU NPU – MediaTek APU 2.0 fusion AI architecture with 1127 GMACs MediaTek CorePilot for sustainable peak performance, longer battery life, and lower operating temperature System Memory –  Up to 8GB of dual-channel LPDDR4x memory @ 1866 MHz Storage […]

VOIXATCH Smartwatch Comes with a Detachable Bluetooth Headset (Crowdfunding)

Voixatch smartwatch

As a Kickstarter project, VOIXATCH introduces the world’s first smartwatch device which puts essential features of all the devices we carry with us in one unit. This watch does everything that smartwatches do, plus it has a built-in Bluetooth headset. Other smartwatches can be used with Bluetooth headset, but VOIXATCH has a Bluetooth ring-look-like headset docked on it, and the headset can be detached anytime and used for phone calls or listening to the music. One can call it a headset smartwatch. Cool, huh? After Mobile World Congress 2019, where Voixatch demonstrated the watch, it is finally available for “purchase” on Kickstarter rewards starting at $179 and first batch delivery expected in June. VOIXATCH embodies LTE, GPS connectivity in an all-in-one truly wireless design that can be used with Google Voice. The watch can also be used as a cellular smartwatch with a bezel headset to make calls and stay […]
