ASRock iBOX-R1000 Mini PC is Powered by AMD Ryzen Embedded R1000 Processor

Announced earlier this week, AMD Ryzen Embedded R1000 series processors will be found in digital signage, storage & networking, and casino & gaming applications including the upcoming Atari VCS gaming console, and ASRock will also launch a mini PC based on the new dual-core Ryzen Embedded processor.

ASRock iBOX-R1000 is equipped with a choice of AMD Ryzen R1505G, or the slightly faster Ryzen R1606G processor, supports up to 32GB memory & 2.5″ SATA drives, and is able to drive up to 3 independent displays thanks to HDMI & DisplayPort video outputs.

AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G Mini PC

The fanless industrial mini PC comes with a 12V power adapter, wall & VESA mounting brackets, and supports Windows 10 and Linux 4.18 or greater.  ASRock claims they are the first company to design a NUC 4″x4″ form factor computer with an AMD processor.

Pricing has not been announced, and it’s unclear whether it’s available now. More details may be found on the product page. If you’d rather get the board only, and integrated into your own design, you can do so with ASRock NUC-R1000 board instead.

As a side note, ASRock released a similar mini PC last week, but based on Intel Whiskey Lake-U 15 Watts processors, and called iBOX-8265U.

  1. Very interesting, seems similar to the MintBox (Compulab) released last July. This AMD model is more attractive than the Intel model in that it has 2xEthernet and runs on 12V.

    1. We use the (really cute!) Compulab Fitlet2 and it certainly has two Ethernet ports and also runs from 12 VDC, with a nice twist lock connector. I’m interested in this for the DE-9 RS-232 connector, especially if the pricing is competitive.

      1. A safe hope, considering Compulab’s pricing. It might be cheaper, though, to simply buy Compulab’s custom cable for fitlet2’s COM-Port.

      2. Yeah, I was comparing with, “As a side note, ASRock released a similar mini PC last week, but based on Intel Whiskey Lake-U 15 Watts processors, and called iBOX-8265U”, which has one ethernet, actually specs differ quite substantially, although the spec page and press release page for this AMD model aren’t consistent either.

        This would be sub-$200, bare-bones? Last I looked the Fitlet2 was ~$170?

  2. IMHO the image of the ASRock iBOX-R1000 is a joke … the side with exposed COM port (DB9) + audio + USB 3.1 + USB 2.0 is fake.
If you check the ASRock NUC-R1000 board versus the ASRock iBOX-R1000, audio and USB 3.1 ports have different position, considering the upper right corner (hole).

    1. > audio and USB 3.1 ports have different position

Hmm… checking the position of the PCB (mounted flipped by 180° to the enclosure top for maximum heat dissipation) and comparing PCB and enclosure dimensions it looks like internal ports on the back are routed with cable extenders to the external ports (same with USB2 and serial).

Right, NUC-R1000 product page confirms a daughter PCB for audio and the back USB3.1 port.

  3. I heard that there were two native 10GE ports on R1000.
Any products with 1G/2.5G/10G compatible optical interface will be really interesting.

    1. SAPPHIRE IPC-FP5R-10GE (board with AMD Ryzen™ Embedded R1000 series APU and Dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet Rj-45 ports)

      1. Thanks! This could be a winner for me! Their Ryzen V1000 series was nice but priced a bit high for my needs. This could be the sweet spot.
