Last year, AMD launched Ryzen Embedded V1000 series processor found in UDOO BOLT single board computer, industrial motherboards, and rugged mini PCs.
The company has now introduced their second Ryzen Embedded processor family with AMD Ryzen Embedded R1000 SoC based on the same Zen cores, and offering 3x the performance per watt against the previous AMD R-Series SoC, and 4x the performance per dollar compared to a system based on an Intel Core i3-7100U Kaby Lake processor.
AMD Ryzen Embedded R1000 processors all come with two cores / four thread configuration, 1MB L2 cache, 4MB L3 cache, VEGA 3 graphics, support for three 4K displays, 4K60 video decode & encode, dual 10Gbit Ethernet, and a TDP configurable between 12W and 25W.
Two Ryzen Embedded R1000 processors have been announced so far:
- Ryzen Embedded R1606G with 2.6 GHz base frequency, 3.5 GHz one-thread boost frequency, and 1.2 GHz GPU
- Ryzen Embedded R1505G with 2.4 GHz base frequency, 3.3 GHz one-thread boost frequency, and 1 GHz GPU
The chips are manufactured using a 14nm process, and since they target the embedded space long term availability of 10 years is guaranteed.
Software support in Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04, Yocto Project 2.5, and Mentor MEL Flex OS. Ryzne Embedded R1000 series should enable the development of more affordable solutions compared to Embedded V1000 series, and we may soon see a UDOO BOLT Lite coming to market. Companies such as Advantech, Alphainfo, ASRock Industrial, Axiomtech, DFI, iBase, Kontron, MEN, Mentor, Sapphire, or zSpace are already working on hardware products or software solutions for Ryzen Embedded R1000 processors in the digital signage, storage & networking, and casino gaming sectors among others.
More details may be found in the product page, and the presentation slides uploaded by Liliputing.

Just been reading at electronicsweekly that Sapphire have announced motherboards
” Small triple display embedded PC boards support AMD Ryzen embedded R Sapphire of Hong Kong has announced Mini-ITX and ‘5×5’ PC motherboards for AMD Ryzen Embedded R1000 processors with Radeon Vega 3 Graphics – where 5×5 is actually 5.8 x 5.5inch or ~150x140mm “
This one then https://www.sapphiretech.com/en/commercial/amd-fs-fp5r
I don’t understand why it’s not mini-ITX though, what’s with all these stupid custom form factors?
It would seem they have a mini-ITX board as well, with 10Gbps https://www.sapphiretech.com/en/commercial/amd-ipc-fp5r

I’m wondering why it has taken AMD so much to launch more of these SoCs and its partners more motherboards around these. Right now I think only Biostar is offering a current, but Bulldozer-era, AMD Mini-ITX SoC boards. They could take the HTPC market by storm with these, even the DIY NAS market if they are kind enough to supply 4x+ SATA ports (ASRock particulary likes to bundle almost always an extra pair of ports via an ASMedia controller).
These are not for the consumer market though, sadly. I fully agree with you though, something like this is needed for the consumer/prosumer market.

I agree a mini itx with 4 sata ports would be great for a freenas setup. Having said that arm cortex a76 will likely be fast enough for freenas, maybe someone will make such a chip. Qualcomm are making an S1000 series chip for laptops, that might work, not sure if anyone will make a mini-itx/micro atx board out of it though.
So there’s real graphics driver support for Linux? AMD traditionally doesn’t support Linux when it comes to GPU drivers.
Well my comments are being deleted . There is also the DFI GH171 board for bulk buyers
On the subject of Ryzen Embedded, has anyone seen UDOO BOLT outside of UDOO? It was supposed to shipped last month after missing December. Its on backorder at Mouser as well. Have a feeling its a supply issue.
AMD Ryzen Embedded R2000 processors are coming soon.
Not details yet, but drivers are showing up:
