Mixtile Core 3588E Rockchip RK3588 system-on-module works with NVIDIA Jetson TX2 NX carrier boards

Mixtile Core 3588E is a system-on-module powered by a Rockchip RK3588 SoC and equipped with the 260-pin SO-DIMM connector found in the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 NX (and Jetson Nano, Xavier NX, Orin Nano modules).

We’ve seen several companies make Raspberry Pi CM4 alternatives such as Radxa CM3 or Pine64 SoQuartz, and Mixtile even has its own Core 3568M SoM that can be used as a drop-in replacement for the Raspberry Pi CM4. But I had not seen companies try to make system-on-modules based on NVIDIA Jetson’s 260-pin SO-DIMM edge connector, and that’s exactly what the Mixtile Core 3588E has to offer.

Mixtile provides both Android 11 and Debian 11 BSPs for the Rockchip RK3588 module which contrasts with the Ubuntu 18.04 or 20.04-based JetPack SDK for the NVIDIA Jetson modules. Besides the different supported operating systems, the Mixtile Core 3588E should offer a better price/performance ratio than the 260-pin Jetson modules it aims to replace, of course, depending on the exact workload you are trying to run.

There are most likely some compatibility issues with some of the carrier boards designed for the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 NX, but Mixtile does not discuss those, or which carrier board the company has tested with the Core 3588E. In all fairness, this looks like an early announcement, so all information may not be available yet. A few more details may be found on the product page.

  1. That Mixtile Core 3568M looks very nice! Wonder whether they’ll release a 3588 SoM in that form factor too…

    1. Their Core 3568M could be useful for the anticipated future upgrade of the DragonBox Pyra…

  2. The Turing Pi 2 uses Nvidia Jetson’s 260-pin SO-DIMM edge connectors. Maybe the Mixtile will work in there. Depending on the price, could be interesting.

    1. That would be nice! Unfortunately they don’t list the prices on their product page – you have to make an inquiry.

  3. The module is now available for pre-order.

    Limited-Time Pre-Order Discount:

    • $109 for 4GB RAM + 32GB eMMC
    • $159 for 16GB RAM + 128GB eMMC
