Hey Karl here. The first thing I need to do is thank the manufacturer of the brand Ace Magician for sending over a unit of their AMR5 gaming mini PC to more or less play with. But we purchased a Nintendo Switch about a year ago and it has barely been used. As soon as my son picked it up he asked why it was so laggy and has shown very little interest in it. New to arrive in the Beelink SER lineup is the SER5 marketed as a ‘SER PRO’ and features one of last year’s AMD Ryzen 5000 H-series processors typically used in high-performance productivity and gaming laptops. Beelink kindly sent one for review and I’ve looked at performance running both Windows 11 and Ubuntu 22.04. Beelink SER5 Hardware Overview The Beelink SER5 physically consists of a 126 x 113 x 42mm (4.96 x 4.45 x 1.65 inches) square metal case. As an actively cooled mini PC, it uses AMD’s 7 nm Zen 3 Ryzen 5 5600H Cezanne processor which is a six-core 12-thread 3.3 GHz mobile processor boosting to 4.2 GHz with Radeon Graphics. Advantech has announced the AIMB-522 industrial Micro-ATX motherboard with AMD Ryzen Embedded 5000 Series Zen3 processors for AI image processing in automation and surveillance applications. I had never heard about “Ryzen Embedded 5000 Series” processors, but that motherboard comes with a choice of new SKUs such as the 12-core Ryzen 5950E, the 10-core Ryzen 5900E, the 8-core Ryzen 5800E, and the 6-core Ryzen 5600E, as well as existing Ryzen 5000 desktop processors. Linus Torvalds has just announced the release of Linux 5.19. It should be the last 5.xx version, with Linux 6.0 coming for the next cycle: So here we are, one week late, and 5.19 is tagged and pushed out. The full shortlog (just from rc8, obviously not all of 5.19) is below, but I can happily report that there is nothing really interesting in there. A lot of random small stuff. In the diffstat, the loongarch updates stand out, as does another batch of the networking sysctl READ_ONCE() annotations to make some of the data race checker code happy. Other than that it’s really just a mixed bag of various odds and ends. On a personal note, the most interesting part here is that I did the release (and am writing this) on an arm64 laptop. As expected, AMD has now launched the Ryzen Embedded R2000 series processors that build up on the earlier Ryzen Embedded R1000 family, but doubles the number of cores to up to four, gets improved Radeon graphics, and adds support for Windows 11 operating system. Performance and efficiency have also improved with the new Ryzen Embedded R2514 CPU exhibiting up to 81 percent higher CPU (Passmark v10) and graphics (3DMark) performance compared to Ryzen Embedded R1606G processor, as well as higher performance-per-watt efficiency thanks to the Zen+ core architecture. The company has four Ryzen Embedded R2000 processors in its portfolio at launch. Hardware Recap The SEi8 is an actively cooled Intel mini PC that physically consists of a 124 x 113 x 41 (4.88 x 4.45 x 1.61 inches) square metal case with a plastic top and uses Intel’s 14++ nm Coffee Lake Refresh Core i3-8109U processor from 2018 which is a dual-core 4-thread 3.00 GHz mobile processor boosting to 3.60 GHz with Intel’s Iris Plus Graphics 655.
