Eufy EverCam Full HD Waterproof WiFi Security Camera Works for Up to a Year on a Single Battery Charge

Wired security cameras can be troublesome to installed due to the cabling required, but luckily there are solutions to avoid all those long cables with solar powered IP cameras, or battery powered IP cameras.

A few years ago I wrote about Immedia Blink WiFi HD camera that claimed to last a year on a charge, and despite several complains on Kickstarter, they seem to still be in business.  There’s now a more advanced model by Eufy – an Anker brand – that supports 1080p video recording with motion sensing and face recognition, that also lasts up to one year on a charge, and offers free storage.

Eufy EverCam specifications:

  • Resolution – 1080p
  • Video Format – H.264 High profile
  • Image Sensor – Sony Exmor IMX323, 1/2 9-inch
  • Field of View (FoV) – 140°
  • Night Vision Range – up to 10 meters
  • Digital Pan & Zoom  – Yes, up to 8x
  • Motion detection – adjustable sensitivity, automatic push notifications
  • Audio – Built-in speaker and microphone
  • Connectivity – Low Frequency Wireless and 2.4 GHz WiFi
  • Battery – Good for up to 1 year

The speaker and microphone allows you communicate with people close to the camera using your smartphone plus their mobile app, for example if a delivery man rings the door.

The camera works with the HomeBase which takes care of storing video data, doing the face detection processing using Eufy A.I. engine, and more.

Eufy HomeBase specifications:

  • Storage – 16GB micro SD card, expandable to 128GB
  • Connectivity – 10/100M Ethernet, 2.4GHz WiFi, low frequency wireless
  • Audio – 2W speaker (and microphone?)
  • Misc – Status and siren LEDs
  • Backup Battery – 5,200 mAh with fast charging (5V/2A, 9V/2A)
  • Power Supply – 12V/2A
  • Dimensions – 128.3 x 68.6 x 130.5 mm
  • Weight – 452 grams
  • Temperature Range – 0 to 50°C

Two type of mount are included with the camera: magnetic and screw, both of which allow you to orient the camera as your wish.

Eufy EverCam launched on Kickstarter a few days ago, and it has been working pretty well so far as they’ve already raised over 1.5 million dollars from around 4,500 backers. Rewards start at $219 for a kit with a camera, homebase, the two mounts, an entry sensor, a 16GB micro SD card, power adapter and Ethernet cable, but the most popular reward by far is the kit with 2 cameras going for $319. Shipping is free, but currently the company only ships to North America and the European Union.
