Edge AI and robotics embedded computers feature NVIDIA Jetson TX2 NX module

NVIDIA unveiled a cost-down version of the Jetson TX2 module with the Jetson TX2 NX SO-DIMM system-on-module last month, and AAEON is one of the first companies to have updated some of their products with the new module.

AAEON’s BOXER-823x-series of fanless embedded computers feature the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 NX module, and multiple Ethernet ports, including some PoE capable for the development of edge AI and robotics applications.

This model offers a mid-range alternative between the Jetson Xavier AGX NX-based BOXER-8250AI embedded box PC and the Jetson Nano-powered BOXER-8220AI mini PC both of which offer the same ports.

• Certification – CE/FCC class A One notable difference against the earlier models is the availability of a high version that can take a 2.5-inch SATA drive (HDD or SSD). BOXER-8230AI embedded computer is designed to power “intelligent applications and edge networks”.

BOXER-8233AI embedded computer is fairly similar to BOXER-8230AI, but comes with fewer Ethernet ports, and adds an HDMI input, two PoE PSE ports to power cameras or other sensors, as well as support for wireless connectivity.

Some of the typical use cases for this model include NVR surveillance systems,  security checkpoints, X-ray scanners, and medical devices.

Software and availability

Both embedded computers run Ubuntu 18.04 part of NVIDIA Jetpack, and support the same pre-trained AI models, developer SDKs and for cloud-native technologies as other NVIDIA Jetson-based hardware.

BOXER-8230AI and BOXER-8233AI Jetson TX2 NX computers do not appear to be available at this time with both product pages shown as containing “preliminary” information, and pricing has not been disclosed just yet.
