UP Xtreme i12 Alder Lake SBC supports up to four 4K displays @ 60 Hz, Raspberry Pi HATs

AAEON has just introduced the UP Xtreme i12 single board computer (SBC) with Intel 12th generation Alder Lake-P hybrid SoC with up to 12 cores/16 threads, up to 32GB LPDDR5 memory, support for four 4Kp60 displays, and equipped with high-speed interfaces such as USB 4.0 and 2.5 GbE.

The board also features four M.2 sockets for NVMe storage, Wi-Fi 6 and 5G cellular connectivity, a SATA III port, several USB 3.2/2.0 Type-A ports, and a 40-pin GPIO header and mounting thread for Raspberry Pi HATs, which should make it especially suitable for IoT, robotics, and smart retail applications, as well as smart manufacturing with a 12 to 36V wide supply voltage range.

Intel Alder Lake P SBC

AAEON provides support for Windows 10 Enterprise 2021 LTSC and Ubuntu 22.04 for the board, and the Yocto Project is shown as “TBD”. I tested the earlier Tiger Lake model part of the UP Xtreme i11 Edge Compute Enabling Kit with Ubuntu 20.04 and I was impressed by both the hardware and software support, with the main issue being the noisy fan. I’m still using it in reviews where I need to test 2.5GbE networking.

The UP Xtreme i12 Alder Lake SBC offers up to 20% greater CPU performance compared to the UP Xtreme i11 and doubles the maximal memory capacity and bandwidth with up to 32GB LPDDR5. But you’ll notice the performance more clearly for 3D graphics and AI workloads since the Intel Iris Xe graphics boots 3D graphics performance by 2.47 times, and image classification by 2.81 times using Intel DL Boost and the Intel OpenVINO toolkit.

AAEON says the UP Xtreme i12 is available for purchase now with pricing depending on SKU, and the UP Xtreme i12 Edge fanless edge system with enclosure is expected to launch soon. The new Alder Lake SBC does not show up on the company’s e-Shop, but for reference, the UP Xtreme i11 SBC sold for $299 to $969 when it launched in August 2021.
